The Association of American Indian Physicians

The Association of American Indian Physicians (AAIP) is pleased to host its 28th Annual Cross-Cultural Medicine Workshop this April 9th and 10th. The AAIP Cross Cultural Medicine Workshop provides physicians, medical students, and other healthcare professionals an understanding of Native American traditional healing practices. Native American traditional healing practices go back thousands of years, and typically involve the use of herbs, roots, and natural plants, as well as various?rituals and ceremonies. These traditional healing practices have been shown to improve mental, physical and spiritual health. Native Americans continue to suffer the highest rates of disease and cancer, resulting in lower life expectancies. In an article published by the Association of American Medical Colleges, it was reported that an understanding Native American traditional healing practices can positively influence Native American health by integrating these practices into their medical care. ().Additionally, the National Institutes of Health/National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine (NCCAM) identifies Native American traditional practices as a medical system that encompasses a range of holistic treatments used by Native Americans for a multitude of medical conditions or to promote health and wellbeing among this population.Your contribution would help sponsor registration for medical students and residents to attend this vital cultural and professional development workshop as well as support speakers who are presenting at the workshop.
