How Your Residential Natural Gas Bill Is Calculated

SCH 23

RESIDENTIAL GENERAL SERVICE

Natural gas customers are billed according to the number of therms of energy used. Therms are calculated by multiplying the hundreds of cubic feet, or Ccf measurement taken by the gas meter, by the relative heat content of the gas, or British thermal unit (Btu) factor. For a customer who used 80 Ccf during one month, billing would be based on 84 therms (80Ccf x 1.056 Btu factor = 84.48 therms).

Gas Summary Sheet No. S-3 Effective 07/01/2013

BASIC MONTHLY CHARGE

Covers the costs for meters, meter reading, billing and other costs that do not vary with energy use or the number of days covered by the bill.

DELIVERY CHARGE

This charge is for the construction, operation and maintenance of pipes, gate stations, pressure regulators and other equipment necessary for the delivery of natural gas to you.

COST OF GAS

This reflects the actual market cost of natural gas.

CCF

Your meter measures the volume of natural gas used in hundreds of cubic feet.

BTU FACTOR

Converts your Ccf energy usage into therms by adjusting it for actual heat content. Btu stands for British Thermal Unit

THERM

Your use of natural gas is billed in units called therms. It is a unit of heat that equals 100,000 Btu.

NEW CUSTOMER RATE FOR FACILITIES EXTENSIONS

If you request a new natural gas line extension to serve your property, depending on the line extension costs or the location associated with the extension, there may be an additional charge for five or more years. This rate may be 11.5, 17, or 34 cents per therm. Detailed information about the New Customer Rate can be found at Rule Nos. 7 and 7A and Schedule 107
