"Nature's Medicine: Cultivating Antitumor Immune Responses and Small Molecules at Ohio State "

Gregory B. Lesinski, PhD

Assistant Professor Division of Medical Oncology OSUCCC ? James

Dr. Lesinski's research is focused on gaining a greater understanding of the interactions between the host immune system and tumor cells, with an emphasis on signal transduction. The goal is to use this knowledge to develop therapeutic or chemopreventive approaches to help patients with cancer, and to improve upon existing therapies.

Dr. Lesinski has authored more than 40 publications or book chapters regarding basic science and translational research on solid tumor oncology, immunotherapy and clinical trials. He has a funded K22 award from the National Institutes of Health for his work on immune suppression in melanoma, and an R21 grant focused on development of small molecule inhibitors of the oncogenic STAT3 transcription factor. He also has received Career Development Research Awards from The Melanoma Research Foundation, The Valvano Foundation for Cancer Research, and The Harry J. Lloyd Charitable Trust for his

research on melanoma, and from The Ohio Soybean Council to investigate the immune modulating effects of dietary soy.

Dr. Lesinski collaborates with numerous members of the OSUCCC ? James to conduct correlative studies for human clinical trials involving immune-based therapies, and in developing small-molecule inhibitors of pro-oncogenic pathways in tumor cells. In addition, he works with Steven Clinton, MD, PhD, to examine how natural products with chemopreventive activity modulate immune function.

Dr. Lesinski earned his PhD in medical biosciences at The Medical College of Ohio and was a T-32 postdoctoral fellow at the OSUCCC ? James before joining the Ohio State faculty in 2005 as a research assistant professor in the Department of Molecular Virology, Immunology and Medical Genetics. He became an assistant professor in Medical Oncology in 2008.
