ADMISSION TO THE UNITED STATES NAVAL ACADEMY



ADMISSIONS

APPOINTMENT To be considered for an appointment, a candidate must meet basic eligibility requirements (established in law and Navy policy), be qualified medically and by our Admissions Board using a whole person assessment, pass the candidate fitness assessment and receive an official nomination.

REQUIREMENTS Each candidate must be between 17-23 years of age on July 1 of the year of admission; not married; a United States citizen (except for limited quotas of international students); of good moral character; and be able to pass the Candidate Fitness Assessment (used by all service academies).

NOMINATIONS Each candidate must obtain an official nomination available from a variety of sources, such as a member of Congress, the President or the Vice President of the United States.

ACADEMICS Applicants must have an acceptable secondary school record and take the College Board Scholastic Assessment Test (SAT) or the American College Testing program test (ACT).

GRADUATION Upon graduation and commissioning, new officers will specialize and serve in one of the following areas:
