SUBJECT: Administrative Approved Cataloging Data Change (ACDC) 0010, Updates to Navy Special Materiel Identification Codes

We are forwarding the attached approved administrative change to Cataloging Data and Transaction Standards (CDTS), Volumes 10, Table 60, Navy Special Materiel Identification Codes, for implementation. Target timeline for Federal Logistics Information System (FLIS) updates is expected to be completed by June 30, 2019. EBSO will post the updated CDTS, Volumes 10 upon completion of the next change cycle.

3 REQUESTED CHANGE

3.1 BRIEF OVERVIEW OF CHANGE

This change approves the removal of outdated abbreviations JSL, Non-JSL, and HSP throughout Cataloging Data and Transaction Standards, Volume 10, Table 60, Navy Special Materiel Identification Codes. It also approves the addition of special language for Navy Special Materiel Identification Code (SMIC) NF to identify it as a historical reference only.

3.2 REQUESTED CHANGE IN DETAIL

3.2.1 Removal of Outdated Abbreviations During review of CDTS, Volume 10, Table 60 for Administrative ACDC 0009, Addition of Navy Special Materiel Identification Code F9, the Cataloging Data Standards Team sought out descriptions for abbreviations such as JSL/Non-JSL, and HSP. During the inquiry, US Navy (USN) determined that abbreviations JSL Items, Non-JSL Items, and Non-HSP were no longer relevant, and could be removed from Table 60. The related FLIS DB2 Table 254, NVY_SPEC_MTL_ID_CD also has this additional language under DRN (SP_MAT_APL_IK_3155) and must be updated. Enclosures 1 and 2 document these changes.

3.2.2 Addition of Historical Reference Only for SMIC NF While consulting with US Navy (USN) and Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) J3 regarding the descriptions, USN also requested removal of SMIC NF, as it is no longer required. SMIC NF was the United Kingdom (UK) version of the F4 Aircraft and is no longer in operation. At present, 2,851 National Stock Numbers (NSNs) are associated with SMIC NF. This will require special action from the J3 Cataloging Data Quality team and as a result, NF cannot be removed at this time. The entry for SMIC NF will include special language specifying historical reference only. Enclosure 1 and 2 capture this addition.

3.3 REASON FOR CHANGE

The change ensures Table 60 is up-to-date and accurate. It also provides users with better understanding of the application of certain SMICs.
