National “Got Your 6TM” Initiative Seeks to Create Positive Transitions for Military Veterans

The Mission Continues to Serve as Activation Partner Alongside Other Top-Tier Nonprofits

St. Louis, MO--May 10, 2012—As announced in a press conference this morning in Los Angeles, The Mission Continues is pleased to join other top-tier non-profit organizations and major entertainment industry partners to launch the Got Your 6™ campaign (). Got Your 6 will create a wide array of opportunities for veterans to successfully convert their military skills and leadership into positive civilian roles.

The Got Your 6 campaign will focus on six pillars of reintegration, working with a lead non-profit organization to activate each pillar in pursuit of a specific, substantial launch goal. The Mission Continues is proud to serve as the primary activation partner for the leadership pillar, furthering its mission to challenge veterans to serve and lead in communities across America. Along with partners Team Rubicon, The 6th Branch and the Corporation for National and Community Service, The Mission Continues has pledged to engage veterans and military families in 1.5 million hours of community service by July 2013. Through service, veterans rebuild a sense of purpose in their own lives while showcasing to the public that our veterans are assets who leadership is needed here at home.

Through the fulfillment of this pledge and the pledges of the other five activation partners (representing housing, health, family, jobs and education), Got Your 6 will create a new conversation in America to ensure that veterans are perceived as leaders and civic assets who will reinvigorate our communities. A list of partners is available online at .

The organizing body and fiduciary agent behind Got Your 6 is ServiceNation, a campaign of Be The Change, Inc., a non-profit organization. Chris Marvin, a former Army Blackhawk helicopter pilot who was wounded in Afghanistan, is the Director of Civilian-Military Partnerships for ServiceNation and the Managing Director of Got Your 6.  In 2007, Chris was awarded the first-ever Mission Continues Fellowship and previously served as the National Director of The Mission Continues Fellowship Program.

“Over the next five years, more than one million service members will return to civilian life,” said Marvin. “As we welcome this generation of veterans home, it is crucial that we view them and their families not as burdens, but as leaders and civic assets.  Through an unprecedented collaboration between the entertainment industry, top non-profits, and the federal government, the Got Your 6 campaign challenges all Americans to view our returning veterans as a critical resource and to join with them in reinvigorating our communities. This is a call to action for all Americans.”
