Study Guide Unit 2: Operations with Whole Numbers and Decimals

On the Unit 2 test, students are expected to:

• Apply place-value concepts to identify digits in numbers and express their values.

• Translate between standard, expanded, scientific, and number-and-word notations with or without a calculator.

• Add and subtract decimals without a calculator.

• Multiply by positive and negative powers of 10 without a calculator.

• Multiply and divide whole and decimal numbers without a calculator.

The Student Reference Book (SRB) is a great place to find descriptions of all of the above items and also practice problems with answers in the back of the book so that students and parents can check their own work.

The following pages are from the SRB and a great place to start studying. On Thursday of this week we will review key concepts from these pages and I will be happy to answer students’ questions on these problems anytime throughout the week.
