Correlation coefficients

A correlation coefficient is a statistical expression of the strength and direction of an association between two variables. The coefficient is expressed as a number between 0 and 1; the larger the number, the stronger the association. The number can also be positive or negative. A positive coefficient suggests that as one value increases so does the other. A negative coefficient suggests that as one variable increases the other decreases.

For each scattergram, tick whetherthere is a strong, moderate, weak or no association and whether it suggests a positive or negative association between the two variables. Write a suggested correlation coefficient to show that you understand that stronger correlations are closer to 1 while weaker correlations are closer to zero and to show that you are happy with positive and negative correlation coefficients.
