Assignment: Type out the questions and answers to the following matters discussed in chapter 15 (pages 480 to 504) concerning the media and its role in the American government. Make sure to read the entire chapter before answering these questions. Please make the questions bold.

content?

3. What are the two main television sources of news for those 18-29 on television and why

does that scare many journalists?

4. Explain why press coverage of the President became more negative with the advent of television

coverage in the 1960s?

5. Describe the lasting effect of the Watergate scandal as it concerns press coverage?

6. Explain the significance of the case of New York Times v. Sullivan as it relates to the press?

7. Explain the significance of the case of New York Times v. United States as it relates to the press?

8. Explain the impact of "twitter" & “blogging” on the media and its coverage of politics?

9. Explain why the majority of Americans perceive the media as being biased?

10. Describe the major ways the government (think FCC) regulates the media?

11. Join the Debate on page 502. Does the media have a bias?

12. Use the internet to find two different media perspectives concerning coverage of President

Trump's press conference on February 16th, 2017. Describe the two different perspectives

and then give your opinion as to the fairness or bias of either one. (There are MANY

different sites that have video of the conference highlights. Just google "President's

press conference of February 16th.)

13. Describe where you get your news information from and whether you feel that your

following of the news is adequate. If not, what steps do you plan on taking to increase

your news information intake.
