P.E.

For P.E children will be focusing on dance and infant agility to explore movement. Children will also be developing balance, agility and co-ordination and begin to apply these in a range of activities.

Numeracy

In Numeracy this term children will be continuing to learn more on addition and subtraction. We will look at adding and subtracting within 20, as well as focusing on our number bonds to 20. Children will then look at comparing addition and subtraction statements, looking for similarities between them.

Children will continue to develop their understanding of number, identifying one more and one less and develop recognition of patterns in the number system e.g. odd and even numbers.

Later on in the term, we will look at reconsolidating our counting forwards and backwards within 20. We will then progress onto counting forwards and backwards within 50.

Music

Children will be using their voices expressively and creatively by singing songs and speaking chants and rhymes. We will also experiment with, create, select and combine sounds using the inter-related dimensions of music.

History

This term we will be looking at and discussing The Moon Landings. We will discuss who the first men on the moon were, how they travelled there, the space suits they wore and special equipment they needed to travel there. We will research and write about Neil Armstrong and how he was a significant individual in our past.

We will research into NASA and how they have changed the world around us.

Finally, we will look briefly at the solar system that surrounds us.

Art/Design

In Art and Design this term children will be learning about Van Gogh and his famous painting ‘The Starry Night’. We will then look at designing and making our own Space rocket.

I.C.T.

Children will continue to develop their basic skills of using a keyboard and mouse, how to login and logout. They will be learning about instructions for a computer and be introduced to basic algorithms in preparation for coding.

Literacy

The Sounds~Write programme will continue to be implemented throughout the term as well as reading in the classroom. Children will be reading ‘Aliens Love Underpants’. They will have the opportunity to develop an opinion about character’s behaviour and create their own characters based on the book. Children will learn about suffixes –‘ed’, ‘er’, and ‘est’ and begin to use them. We will be creatively exploring characters through role play, hot-seating and writing character descriptions and viewpoints. We will explore the book ‘One Giant Leap’ to develop an understanding of Neil Armstrong. Furthermore, children will have the opportunity to sequence and write simple sentences to form short narratives and recounts as well as instructions.

P.S.H.E/Citizenship & R.E

In PHSE children will learn about personal hygiene, healthy eating and caring for family.

In RE we will be thinking about Christianity and what it means to be part of the church, including being baptised.

Science

Children will be learning about the four seasons. We will be looking at changes in weather patterns throughout Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter. We will look at how day length changes throughout the different seasons and why this happens. We will record the weather for one week and will be using thermometers to measure, read and record weather temperature.
