Resident Physician- Housestaff

6/21/2007-6/30/2011 Virginia Commonwealth University

Richmond, Virginia USA

VCU medical center is a 865-bed regional referral center for the state and is the region's only Level I Trauma Center. The center offers nearly 200 specialty areas, many of national and international note. My training consisted of one year of internship or a clinical base year rotating through emergency services, general surgery, medical subspecialties, otolaryngology, cardiothoracic surgery, burn center, trauma call, anesthesia and both general and neuroscience ICU.

In addition to regular resident duties, I worked extensively moonlighting in the cardiac post operative ICU. My duties there included senior level supervision and management of post operative heart transplant, LVAD, total artificial heart recipients in addition to CABG, open and minimally invasive valve patients and impella device patients. In the OR I participated in well over 100 cardiopumonary bypass cases including axial flow LVAD, total artificial heart and impella devices, circulatory arrest cases, major vascular, thoracic single lung ventilation and heart transplant patients. I am proficient in performing and interpreting transesophageal echocardiography, PA catheters, arterial lines, central lines and many other invasive and non-invasive monitoring techniques. As a resident I was a delegate to the ASA and sat on the medical education committee.
