BIOGRAPHY
BY DANNY FORSTER
Danny Forster loves to talk. When he was a child in suburban New Jersey, his parents made him choose: he could talk during the first half of dinner or the second, but not both. He picked the first, because he couldn’t wait. One imagines that during the second half, they didn’t talk either; they just enjoyed the peace.
Turns out Danny was just warming up, because it wasn’t until college that he found his subject: architecture. At Wesleyan University, Danny majored in art history, but what he was crazy about was buildings. Much as he loved buildings, though, Danny never dreamed he could be an architect, so when he graduated from college, he started an internet company but he missed the thing he really loved: architecture.
When he finally followed his passion to architecture school, his passion made him pay. For one thing, Danny still couldn’t draw, and at the Harvard Graduate School of Design, they don’t really feel it’s their job to teach you. That’s when he got a tip from his girlfriend about an open audition to host Extreme Engineering for Discovery Channel. He sent in a three-minute clip of himself talking about architecture - not out of any expectation that he’d get the job.
Danny got his dream job. And his architecture degree. He started his own firm, Danny Forster Design Studio. And now he’s the host of his own show Build It Bigger.
His producers are still trying to get him to talk less.
