|Course Description |
| This is 2 credit hours course, (1 theoretical; 1 practical) for the first semester and 1 credit hour for the second designed to complete |
|the lectures for the students that provide them the necessary knowledge regarding the relation between peroidontics and other dental |
|specialities, also to teach them different periodontal surgical procedures that aim to gain new periodontal attachment & correcting of |
|different mucogingival deformities, these procedures include (Guided tissue and bone regeneration, Free and connective tissue grafts, Osseus|
|surgery). The students will be given a lecture about the furcation involvement and its management. The student shall take a lecture about |
|the causes and the management of dentine hypersensitivity. Dental implants will be introduced to the student regarding its biological, |
|clinical, & surgical aspect. |

|The practical part of this course aims to make the student responsible for completing moderate to severe periodontal cases passing through |
|the whole periodontal treatment modalities; also he/she will be involved with the master student as an assistant in different periodontal |
|surgical procedures. Each student also should be responsible for diagnosis and referred a suitable case for periodontal surgical procedure. |

|Regarding the rules of the periodontal clinics, the student should read the manual which will be provided and there is no excuse for any |
|student to be dismissed from the clinic if he/ she did not follow these rules. |
| |
|The requirements from (1- 6) is to be done by the student during the two semesters till the end of the 2nd semester, each requirement will have|
|certain mark account for the final 2nd semester marks from (40) as it is shown by the attached appendices (1, 2), the student should do more |
|than what is required so as to compete with his colleagues in the sub group. |
| |
|Regarding complete cases which account 10 marks from the (40) of the 2nd semester 5 marks for each case, the student should start looking for |
|the suitable complete case which is selected for him/her by the instructor in the clinic according to certain criteria such as case with |
|periodontal disease that need to be followed and the student has enough time to finish the 2 cases through the two semesters and the 5 marks |
|for each case distributed by this way: |
|Exam. & Diag. & T.P. only----- (1 mark). |
|Completing the whole Phase one ( full mouth SRP) + Exam.& Diag. & T.P. only---( 3.5 marks) |
|The patient came for revaluation after completing the whole Phase one ( full mouth SRP) + Exam.& Diag. & T.P.---( 5 marks) |
|Incomplete phase one ( RP) + Exam.& Diag. & T.P. only---( 2-2.5 marks) |
|** Each student is responsible for the signature of the instructor to be present in his complete sheet & record for each procedure. |

|Each student should do surgical assistant with master student or the senior staff and assigned in his record by the clinic's instructor. |
| |
|Each student should referred a case that need a periodontal surgery either to the master students or the senior staff in the clinic and fill a |
|certain sheet for that purpose and deliver it by the end of the second semester, if ithe case referred and assigned by the specialist who |
|referred it whether from the perio clinic or other clinics and done the student take 2 marks if it is not done he/ she take 1 mark. |

|Each student should applied for one scaling test during in any time during the year after he tell the instructor that he/she want to have the |
|scaling test now and he prepare himself for test in which it's mark will be considered for the student total for the second semester, the case |
|recommended for scaling test should have 1 or 2 quadrants with abundant amount of dental plaque and calculus that need SRP, appendix (3). |

|Each student will apply for verbal exam on spot during his work in the clinic for identification of the correct instruments used in this |
|procedure and discussion for the diagnosis and T.P. for the case, this exam will be held during the 5th & 6th weeks of the first semester. |

|Each student should apply for 3 quizzes which will be giving for each subgroup in the 2nd semester. |
