Members Appointed to Greater Glasgow and Clyde NHS Board
The Cabinet Secretary for Health and Sport today announced the appointments of Francis Shennan, Ketki Miles and Paula Speirs as Members of Greater Glasgow and Clyde NHS Board.
MEMBERS
Francis Shennan is an award-winning business and financial journalist, whose work has included dealing directly with consumers’ queries, investigating complaints and occasionally winning redress. He has formerly held appointments as a non-executive board member of the Accountant in Bankruptcy, a member of Employment Tribunals Scotland, and the Justice of the Peace Advisory Committee for Glasgow and Strathkelvin. Francis is a graduate in law from Edinburgh University, who completed a Certificate in European Employment Law at King’s College London, he has been a Senior of Visiting Lecturer in media and media law at Middlesex, Westminster, Stirling, Strathclyde and Edinburgh Napier universities. He is the author of two non-fiction books and ghost-writer of five business training books.
Ketki Miles has 32 years’ experience in working for a global financial services organisation. She has worked in a wide range of senior leadership roles in the UK, Europe, Asia and the US with experience in working with diverse and dispersed teams. Ketki brings strengths in operational leadership, strategy, and change management. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Computer Science. Ketki has an appreciation of the challenges the NHS faces nationally and in Greater Glasgow and Clyde and is looking forward to making a contribution.
Paula Speirs brings over 20 years change management experience working in management consulting, almost exclusively working with the public sector, and predominately the NHS across the UK. Her key area of expertise has been in developing and implementing transformation and change programmes, including new models of care to develop a more sustainable health and care system. Her experience has largely been gained through Director roles at EY, Capita Health and KPMG. Whilst at these organisations, Paula worked with a number of high profile health and care organisations across the UK, advising on clinical strategy and major change programmes. Paula is currently Associate Director of Planning and Performance at NHS 24, with responsibility for strategic planning, corporate performance and programme management.
APPOINTMENT
The appointments will be for four years and will run from 1st June 2020 to
31st May 2024.
The appointments are regulated by the Ethical Standards Commissioner.
REMUNERATION
The appointments are part-time and attract a remuneration of £8,584 per annum for a time commitment of one day per week.
OTHER MINISTERIAL APPOINTMENTS
Francis Shennan, Ketki Miles and Paula Speirs do not hold any other public appointments.
POLITICAL ACTIVITY
All appointments are made on merit and political activity plays no part in the selection process. However, in accordance with the original Nolan recommendations, there is a requirement for appointees’ political activity within the last five years (if there is any to be declared) to be made public.
Francis Shennan, Ketki Miles and Paula Speirs have had no political activity within the last five years.
BACKGROUND
NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde is the largest health system in Scotland and one of the largest in the UK. It is responsible for meeting the health needs of around 1.14m people living in the area, and provides a comprehensive range of community and hospital based services for the population.
