January 2014

Dear Parent/Guardian of a Fisher Middle School Eighth Grade Student:

This is an exciting time for your eighth grade Fisher Middle School (FMS) child. Soon he/she will be transitioning to ninth grade at Ewing High School (EHS). We are looking forward to working with you and your child. It is now time for your child to start preparing for high school with regard to course selections for the 2014-2015 school year.

Every year, eighth grade teams visit EHS and meet with the Director of Counseling Services and Assessment and EHS guidance counselors in a team assembly in our EHS Auditorium. During this time, general topics discussed include accessing the EHS Curriculum Guide, EHS’s bell schedule, extra curricular activities, grading system, graduation requirements, and the course selection process including requirements for placement in academic levels.

FMS Grade 8 Mercury Team Visits EHS: Thursday, January 23, 2014, 9:00-10:30 AM

FMS Grade 8 Apollo Team Visits EHS: Friday, January 24, 2014, 9:00-10:30 AM

(REVISED make-up day from Wednesday, January 22nd snow day)

After the assembly, students are to select grade 9 elective courses utilizing an “Electives Course Selection Form” (included) which requires parent signature. Students are also required to select alternate elective choices. All parents/guardians are asked to take the time to discuss electives and assist their child in making elective selections.

All EHS ninth grade students are required to take Math, English, World History, Earth/Space Science and Physical Education/Health. The academic levels of these courses for your child will be determined via eighth grade final grades.

Parent/Guardian: Please be certain that the “Electives Course Selection Form” is completed, signed and returned to FMS eighth grade homeroom teachers by Friday, January 31, 2014.
