Experience:

I have worked as an electronics technician since I left University, although I have always maintained an interest in scientific subjects in general. I started translating around 1995, and quickly found that I had a natural talent for it, in fact one Spanish translation agency let slip that I was “the best technical translator on their books”. I continue to work actively as a technician (mostly in sound and illumination, especially when computer-controlled), at the same time as working as a translator. While I generally get asked to translate documents dealing with electricity or electronics (including computer hardware and software), I have done a fair number of translations dealing with chemistry and pharmaceutical products, medical experiments, hospital reports, etc. I have also read extensively on subjects related to medicine, having taken a keen interest in new medical problems such as AIDS, and BSE (“Mad Cow Disease”) and Creutzfelt-Jakob Disease, reading many reports published in the major scientific magazines (The Lancet, JAMA, Science, Nature, The Bulletin of the American Academy of Sciences, and many others). Hence I am familiar with many aspects of medicine, drugs, biology, etc, that I have not studied formally.

Availability

In principle, I am available all year round, including weekends and holidays. Real availability depends on my work load. Since I continue to be active as a sound and light technician, my availability as a translator tends to be lower during the start/middle of the tourist season (more or less, from March to August) and higher during the rest of the year.
