Contest Guidelines
Deadline: September 20, 2004 (postmark)
Works Accepted: Fiction, creative nonfiction, poetry. Works may not have been previously published. (This includes Web publications.)
How to Label Your Submissions: Please send us a cover letter with your name, address, phone number and e-mail address. Please do NOT include your name on your actual submissions/manuscripts. If you are submitting a story, essay or long poem, please number your pages and use a running head (say the title of the piece) to help us avoid any mixups.
Prizes: First place in each category (fiction, nonfiction, poetry) = $300 / total prizes =$900
Length Accepted: Any. (Here, we must say that works over 30 pages long scare us)
Submissions Allowed for $12 Entry Fee: 1 fiction OR 1 creative nonfiction/essay OR 3 poems
Each Additional $6 Gets You: 1 more fiction OR 1 more creative nonfiction/essay OR 3 more poems. (You may send as many submissions in as many genres you wish as long as additional submissions are accompanied by the $6 reading fee.)
Method of Payment: Check or money order payable to The Tusculum Review
Benefits from Fees: One-year subscription to The Tusculum Review (an annual publication) + consideration for publication. We ALWAYS consider ALL works submitted for publication. Only works with entry fees, however, will be considered for the contest.
Notification: SASE. Please be sure to also include an e-mail address and phone number with your submission.
Manuscript Return: None. Please do NOT send postage paid envelopes for return of manuscripts. We do not have the staff to accommodate this. All unpublished manuscripts will be recycled.
Judges: Judges will be editors and staff of the TTR, faculty of Tusculum College and regional writers.
Method of Judging: Manuscripts will be numbered and all names on the manuscripts will be obliterated before they are presented to the judges. We want people to win this contest based on their writing, rather than on friendships/relationships to judges.
Date Winners Will Be Announced: October 11, 2004.
Method of Announcement: All contestants will be given a list of winners through their SASEs. We will phone first place winners only and will contact finalists by mail. We will announce winners on the cover of the inaugural issue of TTR and, if funds permit, through an ad in Poets and Writers.
Mailing/Contact Information: Mary Boyes, Editor, Tusculum Review, Tusculum College, Box 5103, Greeneville, TN 37743. mboyes@tusculum.edu
