Gail Ingis-Claus, ASID
Gail Ingis-Claus, ASID Internationally recognized award-winning designer & artist, Gail Ingis-Claus has been involved in design, architecture, teaching and art for more than 35 years. In her career, Gail has been an ASID certified interior designer, the founder of a school for interior design, an adjunct art history professor, photographer, juror, writer, and design critic.
Ingis carries a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the New York School of Interior Design. She continued her design studies at Pratt and Parsons and studied architecture at New Jersey Institute of Technology. As President of Ingis Design Associates, Inc., she founded the Interior Design Institute in 1981 in Woodcliff Lake, NJ, which merged with Berkeley College in 1988, where she continued as Chairman and Instructor for the department until 1991. She has also taught at the New York School of Interior Design, Kean College, Union, NJ, University of Bridgeport, CT, University of New Haven, CT, and Fairfield University, Fairfield, CT.
Ingis says her paintings of visual poetry and color are forms of “improvisational pieces that move between structure and spontaneity, between realism and abstract images like a jazz musician dancing around a melody or composition. It is the vibrations of the two components that interact with each other with movement, rhythm and light that inspires me.”
As an artist, she is constantly challenging herself to reach new frontiers as she seeks new and innovative methods to create a work, the idea of forging a new kind of art and being at the vanguard.
She has participated in numerous group exhibitions as well as one-woman shows. Her paintings can be found in numerous public and private collections. Her work has been published, and she has received awards for her work. When not painting, Gail can be found on the tennis court (she is also a certified teaching tennis pro) OR AT The Lockwood- Matthews Mansion in Norwalk where she serves as Art Director.
