Status: Established and in use in Moncton
Jurisdiction: Provincial – New Brunswick
Body Responsible: Department of Justice and Consumer Affairs for New Brunswick

Publications: N/A
Development: First established in 2007 as a 3-year pilot project, then extended for another year until March 31, 2011, at which time it was made permanent.
Description of Reform: DV Court is a Provincial Court that specializes in cases involving criminal incidents between current and former intimate partners, including married, common-law, and never-cohabited (i.e., dating relationships). Expectations are that such specialization would result in improved criminal justice system response to the problem of domestic violence, including greater efficacy in processing domestic violence cases (by police, Crown, probation, and court), more accountability/ less recidivism by offenders, and timelier access to services for both victims and offenders.
