Daniel Ramos, HVAC Instructor at Virginia Beach Career and Technical Education Center, Virginia Beach City Public Schools received the 2017 VATIE New Teacher of the Year award.Three Virginia Students win $2,000 National ScholarshipsWorking in Support of Education (W!SE) announced its first annual Financial Literacy Ambassador Awardees on July 28, 2017. The five nationwide award recipients are: Jacob Carrick of Phillipsburg High School in New Jersey Sara Hettinger of Centreville High School, Fairfax County Public Schools, Virginia Tyler Humphreys of Woodbridge High School, Prince William County Public Schools, Virginia Brianna Sandy of Oscar Smith High School, Chesapeake City Public Schools, Virginia Jonah Wolmark of Village School of Great Neck in New York Awardees were selected by a panel of 10 judges. To be eligible, students needed a perfect 100% score on W!SE’s national Financial Literacy Certification Test in the 2016-17 school year. Each applicant composed an essay which addressed the most important lessons learned from studying personal finance in high school and how those lessons will be applied to life. Each recipient received a $2,000 cash award.(continued)Virginia Student is First American to Win World Championship Excel TrophyJohn Dumoulin, a 17-year-old varsity baseball player, Eagle Scout, and Future Business Leader of America (FBLA) member from Forest Park High School, Prince William County Public Schools, Virginia, became the first American to ever take home the World Championship Excel trophy at the Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) World Championship event hosted by Certiport and endorsed by Microsoft. John’s Career and Technical Education courses have included Computer Information Systems; Advanced Computer Information System; Design, Multimedia and Web Technologies; and Economics and Personal Finance.
