Associate Professor Yazbek currently serves as the Chair, Marine Safety and Environmental Protection Department, at the Massachusetts Maritime Academy (MMA), one of nine colleges in the Massachusetts State College System. Professor Yazbek is a graduate of the U.S. Coast Guard Academy and the New England School of Law. Professor Yazbek teaches courses in coastal and marine resource management, environmental law, admiralty and maritime law, maritime security, and emergency management law.

The MMA offers an undergraduate degree in Emergency Management and recently received approval for a Master of Science in Emergency Management. The Master’s program will commence in the fall 2007, and the undergraduate program will graduate its first class in the spring 2008.

Prior to joining the MMA faculty in 2001, Professor Yazbek served on active duty in the United States Coast Guard for over 22 years. Professor Yazbek’s Coast Guard experience has included field and legal assignments in the areas of maritime safety and security, environmental protection, and law enforcement. Professor Yazbek is a Commander, U.S. Coast Guard (Ret.) and has lived and worked in New York, NY; Washington, DC; Boston, MA; and Portland, ME.
