PROGRAM OBJECTIVES

Dr. Christopher Zachary is Professor and Chair, Department of Dermatology, University of California,

Irvine specializing in cutaneous oncology and reconstruction, cosmetic and laser surgery He is a Past

President of the Association of Academic Dermatologic Surgeons. He is an educational innovator, and has

written and edited his share of papers and books.

Dr Zachary is extensively involved in new research projects concerning laser, light and energy based devices,

some of which are going to change the way physicians treat their patients. The first clinician to help define

and develop the fractionated ablative laser, Dr Zachary is a noted speaker and laser expert.

Dr. Raphael Nunes is a board certified dermatologist and plastic surgeon and member and Fellow of the

American Society for Laser Medicine and Surgery. He is the Clinical Director of the Slim Clinique Laser

Center and lecturer at the Bonsucesso Dermatology Hospital in Brazil. Dr. Nunes is the author of many

papers, articles and chapters on aesthetic and laser surgery and is a frequent guest speaker at international

dermatology and aesthetic surgery conferences. He is a consultant and speaker for Solta, Lumenis, Alma,

Palomar, Galderma and Allergan.

Participants will learn about new developments regarding patient safety issues in the use of dermal fillers including immune

mediated infectious complications (biofilms), avoiding vascular complications, and improved patient outcomes by risk reduction

utilizing sterile prep and drape, use of microcannulas, and understanding clinical anatomy relevant to these treatments.

Specifically, participants will be shown the latest clinical and laboratory studies that support these evidence based methods and

techniques, as well as being made aware of the lack of level I and II evidence in the use of microcannulas.

Participants will learn about the safety and effectiveness of the newest technology in non-ablative or minimally invasive devices

used for tightening skin and reducing, altering, or reshaping subcutaneous fat.

The participants will learn risk management methods to reduce the risk of medicolegal action by implementing improved

informed consent and patient education techniques including electronic and web based multimedia.

Faculty and registrants are encouraged to bring cases and participate in an interactive discussion of case challenges and

problems.
