FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Seniors Age 60 and Over Can Ride People Mover for Free on Wednesdays

Senior citizens age 60 and over can simply show People Mover operators proof of age to ride the People Mover bus for FREE every Wednesday.

“Although we started this as a demonstration for the summer, we received many requests to continue the program to help increase the mobility of our senior citizens,” said Jody Karcz, Director of Public Transportation. Since Seniors Ride Free was started earlier this summer, Wednesday ridership has increased by 550 trips on average.

People Mover offers free Travel Training and Trip Planning for people who haven’t used the bus before, or who are unsure of how the Anchorage transit system works. For information on these services call 343-6332.

People Mover sells reduced fare monthly passes for seniors and people with disabilities for $15. These passes offer unlimited rides on the People Mover for a calendar month. Call Customer Service at 343-6543 for more information. Reduced Fare monthly passes can be purchased at the Downtown Transit Center, Dimond Transit Center, Eagle River Parks and Recreation Office, Chugiak-Eagle River Library and the Bus Stop Shop Grocery.
