Final Project

This project will be done in pairs of two. You will be picking a topic that interests you, but you MUST get it preapproved by me first. This project will consist of a couple different parts. Read all of them before you start, so you know what analyses you will be doing.

1. You to need select a topic (remember to think what you want to find out about), get it approved, and come up with a 10 questions minimum survey that you will be collecting data on This survey must be typed, and needs to be handed in with your analysis.

2. You will be giving other students (or staff) your survey. Depending on the types of questions asked and your population, your sample size needs to ensure normality. Check the three conditions of inference, and explain if the conditions were met (if the random condition is not met, explain why).

3. Choose 3 of the following to calculate and interpret. One must be a confidence interval, and one must be a hypothesis test. ( It will be helpful to pick these ahead of time so that you design your survey to give you the types and amounts of data that you will need. (Circle the ones that you chose.)

1 sample CI([pic]) 1 sample CI([pic]) 1 sample CI([pic]1, [pic]2) 1 sample CI([pic]1, [pic]2)

1 sample HT([pic]) 1 sample HT([pic]) 1 sample HT([pic]1, [pic]2) 1 sample HT([pic]1, [pic]2)

X2 test X2 test of homogeneity X2 test of association/independence

4. Create a newspaper article (1 page maximum) to convey your survey, its purpose, your results, and your conclusions (interpret your calculations from step 3 here). This should be well written, starting with an introduction of the topic, include the calculation results, and ending with an overall summary (what did you get out of the survey?). This should be eye-catching and should include a graph/visual as well. Make sure you include the following…

1) What is the topic / point of your survey?

2) What method of sampling did we use?

3) State and interpret your 3 CI / HT results here. (Make sure to state your

confidence level.)

4) A visual representation of the data that helps to support your survey

results and the conclusions made in your article.

5. Finally, you and your partner will jointly reflect on this process and what changes your would make to a future assignment like this one. This should include…

What sampling method did you use? Was there a better one that you wished you had used? Why didn’t you use that to begin with? Were there any questions on your survey that you felt should be changed or improved on? Which ones and explain why? Do you think there was any bias or errors that occurred when collecting and analyzing the data? Again, explain. This summary should be typed.

NOTE: You are handing in 1) A copy of the survey and the results (in a table or

simplified form, not individual surveys or multiple

graphs)

2) Calculations for the 3 that were chosen

3) The reflection

4) A newspaper article (including the graph)

Due Date:

*NO LATE WORK will be accepted. There are two people with this project, so one of you needs to get the project in on time.*

Note: You will be presenting a 5 minute summary of your project to the class for a class participation grade.
