Newton’s Laws of Motion Project

Where can you find Newton’s three laws? Newton’s Laws are universal. They describe the motion of ALL objects in the universe. Whenever you observe people, cars, or animals moving they are following the laws of motion Newton described over 300 years ago.

Your task is to use Newton’s three laws of motion to analyze your favorite sport or activity and create a Prezi to show your findings.

Procedure:

1. State each of Newton’s laws in your own words.

2. Find two images related to your favorite sport or activity that illustrates each law.

3. Using the bolded terms in the outline, write a paragraph analyzing and describing how the pictures demonstrate the law. Underline the bolded terms in your explanation.

4. Find one video related to your favorite sport or activity that illustrates each law.

5. Using the bolded terms in the outline, write a paragraph analyzing and describing how the video demonstrates the law. Underline the bolded terms in your explanation.

** The video cannot be a formal demonstration (i.e. Bill Nye, Conceptual Physics). Maximum video length 2 minutes.

6. Be creative and show evidence of critical thinking!

7. After completing the project, grade yourself using the rubric and turn it in when you present your project.

USE THE OUTLINE BELOW TO HELP ORGANIZE YOUR IDEAS

** You will have to turn this in with your rubric **

Part I – Newton’s First Law

What does the law state (in your own words)?

What is happening in your picture(s)/video that show Newton’s 1st Law?

Evidence/example of inertia/mass relationship:

Evidence/example of the effects of friction:

Evidence/example of balanced/unbalanced forces at work:

Part II – Newton’s Second Law

What does the law state (in your own words)

What is happening in your picture(s)/video that show Newton’s 2nd Law?

Evidence/example of the relationship between acceleration, mass, and force:

Part III – Newton’s Third Law

What does the law state (in your own words)?

What is happening in your picture(s)/video that show Newton’s 3rd Law?

Evidence/example of action/reaction force pairs:

REMEMBER, I’M LOOKING FOR EVIDENCE OF CRITICAL THINKING ~

THIS IS YOUR TIME TO SHOW ME WHAT YOU KNOW ABOUT NEWTON’S LAWS OF MOTION!
