Indications:

• Hypertension

Mechanism of Action:

• Calcium channel blocker

Contraindications:

• Hypersensitivity to nicardipine or other calcium channel blockers

• Aortic Stenosis

Dosage and Administration:

Start with 5 mg/hr then increase by 2.5 mg/hr every 15 minutes as needed up to a maximum of 15 mg/hr. If hypotension occurs, the infusion should be stopped. When the blood pressure has stabilized, nicardipine can be restarted at a lower dose and titrated as needed. The infusion site should be changed every 12 hours if nicardipine is administered via a peripheral vein.
