14. Website. The number of pages viewed more than doubled during the first weekend, meaning people were coming to the web site and reading about the Fest and WWOZ. During the second weekend they doubled again. Even with the high traffic, over one-third of our visitors were new. Even more importantly people stayed once they logged onto the site, listened to broadcast and read about New Orleans and 'OZ. One of the most popular pages were the concert listings which means people were using the site locally as well. WWOZ would also like to thank the Jazz Fest producers for the prominent banner on the Jazz Fest home page urging users to “Listen to Jazz Fest at .” This was a huge help.

The Phoenix, Boston, MA, May 5th, The Crescent City Health Report,

What New Orleans has — what fosters its special culture — is community and continuity: the Mardi Gras Indians, the brass bands, the Social Aid and Pleasure Clubs. These traditions have emerged from some of the city’s most desperate neighborhoods. As local WWOZ radio announcer and historian Tom Morgan told me two years before Katrina, “If you say you’re from the Seventh Ward, that means something.”

The names of ancestors mean something too. Not just Fats but also Danny Barker, Anthony “Tuba Fats” Lacen, Big Chief Allison “Tootie” Montana. These weren’t just musicians, bandleaders, and Indian chiefs — they were teachers who passed on traditions. Playing on the WWOZ broadcast of its annual “Piano Night” from the House of Blues the Monday after the first weekend of Jazzfest, pianist David Torkanowsky dedicated a song “honoring one of the village elders who passed away last year, Alvin Batiste.”

. May 5, 2008. True 'Jazzfester' the official graduation, “I enjoyed the free fresh fruit and ice coffee at the WWOZ tent. Couldn't get enough of the strawberries, watermelon, pineapple, cantaloupe, honeydew melon ...”

The Advocate, Baton Rouge, Neville Brothers Take Fest by Storm, May 7, 2008. It was treat, too, to see the visiting Michael “Mr. Jazz” Gourrier, a longtime WWOZ deejay who moved to Virginia after post-Katrina floodwaters ruined his New Orleans home, acting as Batiste’s emcee.
