Went over proposed handler requirements:

➢ Strike canine first aid

➢ Reword Completed FEMA/DHS mandated National Incident Management Systems as required for First Responders (E.g NIMS 100, 200, 700 & 800)

➢ Strike Crime Scene Investigation – no nationally recognized class and is covered in KyBSAR

➢ Leave HazMat Awareness as identified in CFR 1910:120

➢ Under canine – leave it as “canines shall be at least one (1) year old at the time of certification”

➢ No aggressive canine shall be tested

➢ Remove requirement for certificate of health certificate (30 days) … Tam will reword to be consistent with the checklist

➢ A handler should have knowledge of the use of radio equipment and generalized Search and Rescue operational procedures

➢ It will be necessary for the handler to demonstrate a working knowledge of scent theory, wind patterns, wind direction and basic navigation

➢ Regarding females in heat – no females in heat will be allowed to certify or remain at the testing grounds

➢ Eliminate the Additional requirements for Advanced NIMS type resource and teams

Testing:

➢ The time limit for the handler to find the search area will be determined by the evaluators based on the terrain and/or location of the search area
