Foundation Executive Director Retires with an Abundance of Accomplishments

Paul Storey, executive director of the Cal Poly Pomona Foundation, has announced his retirement, effective June 30.

Storey has dedicated over 22 years to the Foundation's mission of "Quality Service Supporting Quality Education," and his leadership has played a critical role in the Foundation's successes. Throughout Storey's time as Executive Director, his accomplishments have benefited both the Foundation and Cal Poly Pomona immensely. His contributions will forever be recognized.

Among them:

? The expansion of dining units--by listening to students and staff, he brought a variety of food concepts to campus. Dining Services went from a $3.7 million operation in 1995 to over $20 million today. He quadrupled the dining outlets from seven operations in 1995 to 28 this year. This includes the Poly Trolley, the first food truck to offer Starbucks.

? The completion of Village Phase 3 in 2005-- the development of a five-year strategic plan for University Village to add 120 new apartment units designed as four single occupancy bedrooms and two bathrooms for a total of 472 beds and 130,000 square feet. The project also included a new recreation center, maintenance shop, mailroom and the extension of a bridge and entrance from South Campus Drive.

? The implementation of Center Court at Bronco Student Center (BSC)--added seven dining venues at BSC, which currently includes Hibachi San, Peet's Coffee & Tea, Freshens, Poly Fresh, Qdoba, Round Table Pizza and Subway. He also built The Den and Vista Market at the Suites.

? Enhancements at Los Olivos--invested in continuous upgrades to Los Olivos to transform it from a simple hot line to the multi-platform offering it currently boasts. The new Los Olivos Commons will open in summer 2019.

? The launch of Bronco Bookstore's online e-commerce presence, generating $30,000 in 2000 to $2 million a year in revenues in 2016.

? The Award for Achievement and Innovation for Instructional Materials Accessibility Plan (IMAP) phase of the ATI--this award was given for the work done by the Bronco Bookstore and the Disability Resource Center (DRC) on textbook accessibility.

? The employment of over 1,500 student employees--the Foundation is the largest employer of students on campus, totaling over $4 million in wages in 2016 and $30 million in wages from 2006 to 2016.

? The increase in Foundation assets from 30 million to 220 million.

? Kellogg West Conference Center & Hotel at Cal Poly Pomona has renovated all 85 guestrooms, lobby, downstairs exhibit lounge, courtyard area, main conference center hallways/photo murals, Dining Room, Crestview courtyard, pool deck and exterior areas of all four buildings.

? The management of Kellogg House--the Foundation began managing the historical home.

? The initiation of the Norman J. Priest Scholarship and Pepsi Bottling Group Scholarship--the Norman J. Priest Scholarship is given to Foundation full-time student employees who embody the ideals of former Foundation board member Norman J. Priest through their community service, leadership skills and involvement in the

Foundation. The Pepsi Bottling Group Scholarship is made possible through the Dining Services' beverage contract with the Pepsi Bottling Group and is given to Collins College students who work in Dining Services or Kellogg West.

? The Foundation CARES Program (Community Assistance Reinforcing Educational Success) -- this was developed in order for Foundation employees to give back to the local community, especially Kellogg Polytechnic Elementary School.

? The increase of post-award administration grant and contract expenditure activity, which went from $5.8 million 1996 to $13.1 million in 2016.

? The growth of textbook choices for students--Bronco Bookstore offers new and used books, rental books, access codes, digital books and interactive multimedia course materials. Worked aggressively in lowering textbook costs to students with an aggressive used book campaign.

? The faculty housing program--The Foundation offers an affordable housing program at Kellogg Tract and Fair Oaks Walk. Fair Oaks Walk--the Foundation's first off-campus, home ownership program, built specifically for the benefit of faculty and staff at CPP. Unlike traditional home ownership, a Fair Oaks Walk buyer will purchase the home but lease the land from the Foundation, greatly reducing costs and enabling university professionals and affiliates to own a new home near CPP.

? Innovation Village, a premier corporate research and technology park at CPP. It was one of the first publicprivate partnership developments approved by the CSU Board of Trustees and has been an example of a successful P3 model to other campuses. It is a unique environment that provides opportunity for collaboration with university researchers, students and administration in an environment that promotes excellence. The Foundation contributed $5 million to fund the infrastructure of this 65-acre project. The project has created jobs for both interns and permanent employment for CPP students over the last 15 years and currently provides economic output in excess of $700 million per year to the local community.

? Campus South--In addition to a pledge of funds to assist the university in covering the cost to hold the property, the Foundation is generating nearly $1 million this year in revenue from its collaboration with the film, television and advertising industry as the property is used for its creative content, thus creating a new and unique environment for the industry, which has been growing in the greater Los Angeles metropolitan area.

On Storey's watch, the Foundation has become the largest employer of students on campus, often giving them practical experience in the field they are studying.

Among his executive responsibilities have been service on the President's Cabinet and on numerous committees over the years. He has also served on the California State University Land Development Review Committee for the Chancellor's Office.

"We are sad to say goodbye and are grateful for all of his team's accomplishments that have led to the Foundation's recognition among peers as a strategic pioneer," said President Soraya M. Coley.

The Foundation Board of Directors will conduct a national search for his successor.

Construction of Los Olivos Dining Commons Replacement Building

The new Los Olivos Dining Commons replacement building is set to open in August 2019. The construction is set to take approximately two years.

With construction taking place, do not be alarmed! You will still be able to enjoy everything Los Olivos has to offer until the opening of the new building. The new dining commons will accommodate additional students who will be living in future housing structures. The addition of this new building will provide more space and food options for all.

Along with a new look, the building will feature great restaurant style food prepared for individual plating. New menu items are currently in the works, but the confirmed stations are Grill, Global, Sandwich/Panini, Sushi, Pizza and Dessert.

The new dining area hopes to integrate more plant based proteins and incorporate robust flavors from around the world. Several different options are to be offered making the construction of the new and approved Los Olivos something to be excited about.
