Collecting

Agricultural Education Student Data Information

for Each School Year

The National Council for Agricultural Education and National FFA Organization has approved this collection tool to be used nationwide.

An Excel Spreadsheet for the collection of local data is being provided to states to be used at the local level.

When is it due?

The local program report is due to the State Agricultural Education office by May 15th..

Please send electronically to ag.ed.registration@ag.state.nj.us Faxed information with signatures is not needed and can not be utilized.

Objectives:

1. Provides an overview/picture of the Secondary Agricultural Education enrollment nationally, by state and locally.

2. State information is required to be submitted into the annual report of Agricultural Education at all levels.

3. Identifies agriculture student’s career interest nationally, by state and locally.

4. Provides a basis to develop priorities in agricultural education programs and curriculum development.

5. Provides a base-line to examine trends in student enrollment, career interest and retention in agricultural education.

What student information is being requested?

A non-duplicated count of students in Agricultural Education by grade level, gender and career interest/pathway is being requested.

By completing the document, the local agriculture program receives immediate feedback to share with their administration, advisory committees, local boards of education and key stakeholders.

The state report form also provides a more detailed feedback report once the local program data is entered by the state.

How does the local program collect & report the data?

Ideally, following a lesson on careers in agriculture, students would indicate their career interest on the student form (One per student).  This does not need to coincide with the ag class in which they are currently enrolled. Locally, the local data is summarized on the local data summary form/tab of the Excel spreadsheet.  A copy of the local information is forwarded electronically to the state office for statewide summarization.  A local program summary report is automatically generated within the spreadsheet once the data is entered. (Please be sure to take advantage of this local information.)

What about students that are added or programs that have semester or block courses?

Teachers can choose when and how they would like to collect the information from students as long as it includes all agricultural education students for the current school year.

How does the state collect & report the data?

Local agriculture programs submit the information electronically to the state office.  (Please do not fax or mail the forms to us. We must have electronic information.)
