This ESL Certification Program is for candidates in the global program.
Retain this sheet to record progress toward your program. Eligibility for graduation requires:
1) Satisfactory completion of courses printed below
2) A minimum of 12-15 graduate semester hours earned at The College of New Jersey
3) A minimum total of 15-24 graduate semester hours
4) A maximum of 6 hours may be transferred into this program
5) A cumulative Grade Point Average of 3.0
6) *Meet NJ State undergraduate course requirements: two in English, Math, Science, Social Studies (one in U.S. History)
7) *Praxis Core Test scores:156 on Reading #5712, 162 on Writing #5722 and 150 on Math #5732 (Waived with SAT: Verbal 560, Math 540 (Test taken 4/1/1995-2/28/2016); Verbal 610, Math 570 (Test taken on or after 3/1/2016); or ACT scores: English 23 on Math 23 or 155 on Verbal and 156 on Quantitative of GRE with 4.0 on writing).
8) Passing scores (Advanced Low) on ACTFL Oral Proficiency Interview (OPI) & Writing Proficiency Test (WPT). (WPT is exempt for candidates who meet the requirement #7.)
9) Pass an examination in physiology, hygiene and substance abuse issues pursuant to N.J.A.C 6A:9-5.9
10) Completion of an online training in HIB (harassment, intimidation and bullying)
11) Submit an edTPA portfolio (For Initial certification candidates only)
12) Completion of all departmental requirements/prerequisites
