Marketing/Traffic Generation Professional

ORGANIZATION:

Founded in 2001, Jesus Institute is a 501c3 non-profit organization operating websites to assist curious people of all backgrounds to learn about Jesus. In 2006, over 1 million unique visitors utilized the extensive information available about Jesus on the Jesus Institute reference websites.

While Jesus Institute enjoys strong partnership relationships with organizations like Ambassadors for Christ, Intervarsity Christian Fellowship, Campus Crusade for Christ, Luis Palau Association and many others, it is not affiliated with any particular Christian denomination or church hierarchy.

Jesus Institute is led by eight board members, including the Founder and President, Vip Patel; Larry Langdon, a former Internal Revenue Service Commissioner and Fuller Theological Seminary Trustee; Ken Perez, Chair of John Stott Ministries and Member, National Board of InterVarsity; and Allen Phipps, a former partner of Boston Consulting Group. A successful entrepreneur and internet pioneer, Vip Patel, previously founded and served as President/CEO of eHealth (EHTH) a publicly traded company.

In 2006, Jesus Institute released , an English site that greatly expands the opportunity for questioners, seekers, and Christians alike to take their study of Jesus to a whole new level. At users are able to form groups, take courses like “Jesus 101” or interact with others utilizing profiles and messaging. Truly an international resource, users of come from every corner of the English speaking world.

The Jesus Institute strategic plan calls for releasing in Chinese by the end of 2007, and focusing a significant portion of the current budget to marketing and traffic generation for the English site. Hence, the Board and President, seek an outstanding marketing professional to join the team in this newly created position.

Jesus Institute is located in Encinitas, California (Northern San Diego County.)

POSITION DESCRIPTION:

Initially reporting to the President, this marketing professional will be responsible for all aspects of generating visitor traffic to the Jesus Institute websites. This position is similar to that of a “player-coach,” spending an estimated 75% of time directly implementing online marketing/traffic generation activities and 25% of time providing leadership to consultants on various general marketing activities (public relations, direct mail, etc.)

• Develop overall brand for

• Develop and implement marketing/traffic generation strategy consistent with Jesus Institute short term goals and longer term targets. Strategy will incorporate online and offline marketing techniques and programs.

• Manage growing marketing budget (currently at $100,000 per year.)

• Work aggressively and independently to complete tasks consistent with approved marketing strategy.

• Select and manage consultants and vendors.

• Create and execute high-value web advertising campaign, including writing content, and negotiating placement contracts.

• Utilize current techniques in search engine optimization, word of mouth, and viral marketing programs.

• Seek out and maintain partnerships with organizations that can drive traffic to Jesus Institute websites.

• Lead outreach to other organizations to obtain links from their sites to Jesus Institute websites. Market Jesus Institute content for inclusion in websites of like-minded organizations and ministries.

• Manage all media inquires, and seek out creative ways to proactively place Jesus Institute in the traditional media (books, magazines, newspapers.)

• Provide advice and counsel to President in his role as principle spokesperson of organization.

• Conceive and execute direct mail strategy as budget will allow.

• Assist in the development of new affinity groups utilizing and the recruitment of facilitators for these groups of users.

• Provide on-going feedback to the President and technical team on how the websites’ can evolve to help meet the needs of new groups of users.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• 2-5 years of experience with an Internet company in a marketing and/or traffic generation role, OR in an Internet marketing role for any organization or company.

• Demonstrated success in generating website traffic; including conceiving and executing a multi-pronged (online and offline) marketing strategy that simultaneously builds a brand.

QUALIFICATIONS (continued):

• Knowledge of and ability to implement state-of-the-art online marketing mechanisms; including search engine optimization, pay per click, product seeding, word of mouth, viral, and other online approaches.

• Demonstrated success with high-value, low-cost marketing techniques.

• Committed to the mission of Jesus Institute and capacity to represent Jesus Institute with passion and conviction.

• Experience with on-line ventures that have diverse international users across the wide spectrum of the English speaking world.

• Masters in Business Administration is preferred, Bachelor’s Degree is required.

• Ability to work full-time in Encinitas, California.

Jesus Institute is offering a competitive non-profit executive salary and benefits. Title of the position will be commensurate with professional experience.
