This is a one-year contract between the Arkansas Department of Career Education (ACE), Office of Career Development and the Career Guidance Novice Teacher. The mentorship program must be completed prior to June 30th. All financial transactions are between the district and the Arch Ford Education Cooperative. All checks must be written to the Arch Ford Education Coop. Mail check or Purchase Order in the amount of $500.00 to:

The mentorship program is a comprehensive program of observation, participation, and guidance designed to promote and ensure success of novice career guidance teachers. The mentorship program will provide the training necessary to endorse certified teachers or approved Non-traditional Licensure personnel in the area they are teaching. The program is designed to provide training during the first semester of teaching.

Novice Teacher Expectations:

• Have a valid secondary (7-12) or middle school teaching license for Career Orientation or be enrolled in the ALP program.

• Complete ACE sponsored training for new teachers under a model mentorship trainer by the end of the first semester of teaching the course. All teachers must obtain their endorsement prior to their second year of teaching according to Dept of Career Education Policies.

• Attend Career Guidance New Teacher In-service.

• Submit a payment of $500.00 to the designated fiscal agent prior to beginning of the mentorship training program.

• Give ample time to training and developing the course being taught under the guidance and satisfaction of a designated model teacher trainer.

• Submit the application for licensure from the Dept.of Education upon completion of the mentorship contract to the Office of Career Development at ACE.

School Expectations:

• Send a Waiver Request Form Act 1623 of 2001 to the Department of Education, Professional Licensure.

• Provide opportunities for the novice teacher to attend new teacher in-service and visit the classroom of the mentor trainer.

Mentor Expectations:

• Provide ample time, training, and support to the novice teacher in the areas designated by the training guidelines.

• Report mentee progress to the Office of Career Development regularly.

• Submit a letter of recommendation to the Office of Curriculum and Career Development

ACE Expectations:

• The Office of Career Development Program Manager will assign a trained model teacher as the mentor upon receipt of the contract and payment.

• A copy of the signed contract will be sent back to the principal for school records.

• Upon completion, The Office of Career Development will send a letter with the licensure application to ADE, Professional Licensure with copies sent to the instructor and principal to add the appropriate endorsement to the standard teaching license.
