The Lady Patriots earned their opportunity with a 329 team score last Monday on the very long course at Dale Hollow State Park. One of her best rounds was a 74 at the Kenny Perry Country Creek Course in Franklin. She also placed fourth in the Taylor County Invitational. Taylor adds that her favorite memory from golf has been being around her team---whom she describes as “so much fun to be around.” Taylor says that golf has taught her patience and perseverance. “When I relax and trust God with mu game, everything falls into place,” she adds. Taylor hopes to be an electrical engineer and attend either Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology or the University of Kentucky.

Athletic Training Program

Athletic training is practiced by certified athletic trainers, health care professionals who collaborate with physicians to optimize activity and participation of athletes and patients. Athletic training encompasses the prevention, diagnosis, and intervention of emergency, acute, and chronic medical conditions involving impairment, functional limitations, and disabilities. Students who want to become certified athletic trainers must earn a degree from an accredited athletic training curriculum. Accredited programs include formal instruction in areas such as injury/illness prevention, human anatomy and physiology, therapeutic modalities/exercise, and nutrition. Classroom learning is enhanced through clinical education experiences. Most programs require students to complete a rotation with an upper/lower extremity sport, a football season, physical therapy clinic, and a high school site.

After completing freshman year at a chosen college with an athletic training program, then the student applies to the program to begin their sophomore year. The program last for three years with the clinical rotations ending after each semester. A student can transfer to a college with an accredited program with completed general education classes; however it is preferred to start at the accredited college initially.

There are four colleges in Kentucky that offer an accredited undergraduate athletic training program; Eastern Kentucky, Murray State, Georgetown College, and Northern Kentucky University. Western Kentucky University does not have an accredited program for athletic training; even through you can obtain an exercise science degree. The degree that an athletic trainer does graduate with is an exercise science degree with the focus in athletic training.

If there are any questions or if a student wants advice towards this degree please contact me, I’ll gladly answer any questions.

Senior tailback Austin Napier rushed for 104 yards and scored three times while senior quarterback Kasey Johnston passed for 200 yards as AC-S tamed the Breckinridge County Tigers 40-0 last Friday night.

The performances paced the Patriots to their second win of the year and, more importantly, a district win heading into the final month of the regular season.

For the first time all season, the Patriots scored in the first quarter. Napier’s 16-yard run at the 7:59 mark capped 10-play, 65 yard drive. Johnston’s successful two-point conversion pushed AC-S to an 8-0 lead. Five minutes later, Napier added a 26-yard run to give his team a 15-0 lead.

At the 7:13 mark of the second, Johnston tossed an 18-yard touchdown pass to junior Austin Graves---his first career touchdown reception. AC-S added a fourth first half score when junior Charlie Trapp capped a six- play, 67 yard scoring drive with a three yard run. Trapp’s touchdown at the 1:37 mark gave AC-S a commanding lead.

AC-S added two scores in the third. With 5:41 left, Napier scored on a two-yard run and with 2:43 remaining, Trapp turned a Tiger turnover into a 30-yard score.

Defensively, senior Nick Prock led AC-S with six tackles. Sophomore Cainan Cox, senior Austin York and junior Tanner Mutter had interceptions for the Patriots. The Patriot defense held the Tigers to 134 total yards.

AC-S (2-5) is off Friday. The Patriots return to action Friday, October 12 as they host Warren East (7-0).
