Spanish Language AP IV Summer Work 2013-2014



Tareas usando varios medios de comunicación

Artículos impresos; necesitas leer cinco artículos distintos y completar la hoja de trabajo acompañante para cada artículo (3 de acontecimientos recientes y 2 de aspectos culturales). No leas todos los artículos del mismo sitio, elige, de la lista sitios distintos. Noticieros; vas a ver 4 reportajes de noticias. También debes completar la hoja de trabajo acompañante. Novela/libro; tendrás que leer una novela/libro de los que están en la lista y completarás una reseña de ese libro en la hoja acompañante. Películas; vas a ver 2 películas de la lista- por favor sé honesto/a y no hagas la tarea con películas que ya has visto. También completa la hoja de trabajo acompañante para cada película. Al completar estas actividades, ampliarás tu vocabulario que es algo sumamente importante para el curso y el examen AP. Puedes hacer copias de las hojas de trabajo (páginas 3-5 de este paquete).

A. Current events from the media

Do the following activities for 3 newspaper or magazine articles that focus on current events.

• Print 3 articles from an authentic (real) newspaper or magazine in Spanish. The articles should be from different dates and they should be at least ½ a page in length of written text.

• Read each article.

• Write a list of at least 10 new vocabulary terms found in the article and define them in English.

• Write a summary of the article in your own words in Spanish in a well-developed paragraph. Summarize the article by discussing the key points. Do not just restate the facts. Use the attached template as a guide for giving the information and answering the questions for each article.

• In your summary answer: How does this article connect/relate to the AP Spanish Language themes? (See attached)

• Mark the text. Highlight main ideas, circle and define words you don’t know.

You may choose to use the websites listed below. You may also use magazines in Spanish, but do not focus only on fashion/ sports/ gossip magazines (limit one!).

B. 2 Cultural articles from

• Choose one cultural article from the intermediate level (Intermedio) and one article from the advanced level (Avanzado).

• Follow steps 1-6 from part A (above)

C. Television newscasts

• Watch 4 newscasts of Spanish News from a Spanish television network such as Univisión or Telemundo or CNN En Español.

• For each newscast you watch write a Spanish summary of the news reports.

• Write the Television Network/ Channel, Title of news program, date and time of the newscast

Do not use Spanish articles or newscasts that focus on gossip ie. TVyNovelas, People en Español, Selecciones, Cosmopolitan, Vanidades, Alarma TV or Al Extremo

D. Novels/Book: Choose 1 of the following novels/books and complete a book review (see attached form). You will either have to download the PDF of the book or novel or order on Amazon or Barnes & Noble. Most books are less than $20 on paperback. Some books have translated versions READ THE SPANISH VERSION!

E. Movies: Watch 2 of the movies from the list below. Complete an analysis of the movie by following the template attached. Some of the movies from the list are rated R for mature content. You are not required to watch the Rated R films. You may choose others that are not rated R- that’s why there is such a long list of movies to choose from. Also if you do choose to watch a rated R movie it is required that you obtain a parent signature on your analysis of the movie along with a statement that says you have parent permission to watch said movie. Also, if you are selecting to watch a movie that you can change the settings to Spanish audio please do so. If there is no Spanish audio but you can select Spanish subtitles – please do so as well. It will help with your vocabulary.
