Early Stage 1 Term 3 ? Week 10

You've made it! The last week of school before the holidays. Congratulations on completing some amazing work this term! We are so proud of everything you have done. Enjoy a well deserved rest these holidays. We will see you next term!

We will continue to hold Zoom Meetings with your class; the Meeting IDs are posted below, they will be the same each day. We will now be having 2 meetings per day.

The Zoom sessions throughout the day will be used to go through upcoming activities and answer questions. All students are encouraged to attend the first Zoom session to mark rolls and go through the learning intentions for the day. Any child wishing to attend the second meeting to clarify information or ask questions may do so. Teachers will be there to help!

Thursday will be a screen free day - where you can complete many fun activities from the grid, that don't involve a screen (apart from taking a photo!).

The aim is for students to be able to complete them independently, with minimal parental guidance. We hope this helps families in this challenging time. Have a wonderful week!

Task: Draw a picture of your class and your teacher.

M O N D A Y

English

Phonics: Listen to the Soundwaves chant using mother727 passcode and revise all the sounds you have learned. Don't forget the actions!

Speaking and Listening: Group Talk- Tell your teacher about your top 3 activities from this term. If it is something you've made, you may like to show it. What did you enjoy about the activity? Was it challenging? If so, what made it challenging and how did you overcome that difficulty?

Reading: Read the online book `Gus on a Bus' from MiniLit (Series 1 Level 4). Make a prediction about this book. `Gus' and `bus' rhyme, can you think of any more words that rhyme with them? Write them down on a piece of paper. Read the book out loud and pay attention to the full stops, commas, question marks and exclamation marks. Your voice does different things when we see these types of punctuation, what things are they? Draw a picture of Gus on the Bus and the other characters.

Writing: Using the lined paper supplied or on a piece of paper or a workbook write about what you did on the weekend. Try to include some interesting details; what did you do? Who was with you? If you went for a walk or rode your bike, where did you go? Remember to start with a capital letter and finish a sentence with a full stop. Are you using finger spaces?

Break - take a break and step away from your school work!

MATHS

Subtraction Riddle: Follow each step to work out your secret number. Work out each subtraction step and cross off the answer, as the number you are looking for is NOT one of the subtraction answers. The number you are left with is your secret number.

Subtraction Stacks

Watch the video to see how to play Subtraction Stacks and think about the strategies you can use to find the difference between the values on the dice

Subtraction Stacks You will need:

A partner to play with. 12 counters (or other items such as dried pasta, lego pieces) per player. 2 x 6 sided dice. A piece of paper to make a Subtraction Stack game board.

How to play:

Each player places their 12 counters on their subtraction stack game board. More than one counter can be placed on each number.

Take turns by rolling the dice and finding the difference between the two numbers rolled.

If a counter is on the number, the player removes it from the game board. If there are no counters to remove, miss a turn. The winner is the player who removes all counters from their game board first. Other ways to play:

Extend the subtraction stack gameboard to 9 or 11 and use a 12 or 10-sided dice. Virtual 10 and 12 sided dice

Today we are going to play a game called `Mother May I' where you ask to take lots of different kinds of steps to get to the `mother' a bit like `What's the time Mr Wolf'. Watch the instructional video here and play with a member of your family-everyone might like to join in! See if you can invent some interesting steps yourself. Do they include hopping, jumping, leaping or running? These are some of the fundamental movement skills we have learned at school.
