0457200Wednesday 25 March 2020Dear Parents and Carers,During these unprecedented times schools have been asked to provide quality learning opportunities for students who are pursuing their learning both at home and here at school. We have a dedicated teaching staff that truly care about each student in their classes. We will strive to support you by providing a range of engaging learning activities and best possible educational resources that you and your child can access from home. We recognise that each family has its own dynamics and that everyone will approach alternative learning in the way that best suits their family needs. We want to emphasise that although we have gone to great lengths to provide quality learning experiences, how you decide to use these grids is up to you and your family. Attached to this letter you will find learning grids for each stage (ES1=Kindy, St1=Year 1 and 2, St2 = Year 3 and 4, St3= Year 5 and 6). Each grid includes enough activities for one week. Two individual sets of learning activities have been provided to last through till the beginning of school holidays. Please note that these grids are intended to provide an opportunity for guided interaction between you and your children and do not need to be returned to school. We encourage you to engage with your children in their learning, to provide positive praise and feedback and make the experience as enjoyable as possible. We appreciate that this is a particularly stressful time for everyone. Your child/ren may feel a little unsettled with the changes to their school routine. They are very likely to have questions about what is going on in the world around them. We would encourage you to actively listen to their worries, questions, concerns and to help them express their feelings in positive ways. Let them know it is OK to have these feelings and emotions and that we are all working together to make the most of a difficult situation.Sincerely,Shoal Bay Public School StaffTips for making the most of remote learning:Establish routines and expectations Create a learning space for your child/renCheck school communication platforms for updates (Facebook, Snippets/emails, class communication systems etc) Engage in your child/ren’s learningEncourage regular physical activity or exerciseMonitor how much time your child is spending onlineRead daily with your child (online texts, books, magazines, recipe books, newspapers etc)Provide opportunities for incidental daily writing (journal, letter to loved ones, shopping list, recipe, jokes, poems etc)Keep your remote learning experience as positive, engaging and enjoyable as possible – there is no academic crisis. Give yourself permission to take a break if you need one, try something new if you are so inclined and take time to breathe, relax and enjoy quality time together.center-436880ONLINE LEARNING RESOURCESStudents already have access to some of these accounts (eg Mathletics, Literacy Pro, World Book Online, ).
