This activity helps students break a word into its individual sounds and is the precursor to helping develop strong decoding skills (ability to sound out words as they read) and strong spelling skills. Please make sure your child can successfully sound out 2 sound words before moving on to this task. You may have to spend a few weeks working on 2 sounds.1. Go LST website at ?. Help rescue them by transporting them to a safe ocean. How fast can you transport the Oktas? Use your counting skills to save as many as you can before the timer runs out! A number will show up on the screen in red on the top right corner. This is the target number of Oktas for you to rescue. When you are done clicking that number of Oktas, click the green arrow button on the bottom right corner to save them. You will then be given a new target number in red. Continue ‘rescuing’ Oktas until the timer runs out.When you run out of time a screen will appear that says, “How many Oktas did you save?” Count the Oktas to add up how many you saved. If you are playing at a higher level, the Oktas will be organized into rows of ten. Count by tens and then add the remaining Oktas to count how many you saved in total.Next, drag the white triangle along the number line to the number that matches how many Oktas you rescued (Hint: you can see the numbers of the number line in the small white box that the crab is holding up as you drag the white triangle).
