My name is Caroline Dimont: I was born in Fresno, CA. I was the 6th of 8 children in my family. I graduated in December, 1981 with a BS, Nursing. I married Irv Dimont, (a CSUF physical therapy alumnus), who I met while at Fresno State. We will be celebrating our 25th wedding anniversary this August, 2008. We have two sons, Michael, age 20 and Greg, age 16. Michael is a pharmacy student at U.O.P. and Greg is a high school junior at Clovis West High School.
Short Nursing BIO: Tell us about your Nursing career since graduation and further education you may have received:
I have worked at Saint Agnes Hospital since 1979. I first started working there as a nursing student while in college. I got my RN license in 1981 and have worked there as a clinical nurse since. I have worked in various departments over the years: Medical/ Surgical, Telemetry, Critical Care, PACU, Outpatient Surgery, and now at the California Eye Institute Surgery Department. I consider peri-anesthesia nursing my “expertise” and am a certified ambulatory peri-anesthesia nurse (CAPA).
List any student nurse experiences you may remember and any faculty:
I was fortunate to have Eleanor Stittich and Martha Davis as instructors. I remember these two as very dedicated to their profession. They were eager and excited to share their vast knowledge and experience with their students.
How do you feel about nursing then and now, and in the future?
Nursing has been a great career choice for me. I have been able to earn a very good income while at the same time raise a family and be very involved in their school and extra-curricular activities. I have been able to work part time since my sons were born. Once they are both in college I can easily resume working full time again if I want or need to.
Now 27 years after graduating from the nursing program, I still think that nursing is one of the best choices that one can make. There are so many different areas of nursing to choose from with so many different types of work schedules. One can easily find a job with the hours that best fit into their personal life.
