THE FOLLOWING IS A LIST OF SCHOLARSHIPS WITH THE REQUIRED CRITERIA FOR ELIGIBILITY AND THE DEADLINE FOR SUBMISSION.
The scholarships listed are a sampling of scholarships students may apply for. Scholarship criteria may change from year to year.
The criterion for each scholarship is different. Students may not qualify for every scholarship.
It is the student’s responsibility to listen to the daily announcements for scholarship updates, and to visit
the “College Resource Center” frequently, so they
don’t miss out on any application.

JANUARY DEADLINES
American Institute of Architects Foundation
High school seniors, junior college or technical school students transferring to a professional program in architecture.

High school senior, technical school/community college students entering or attending a program leading to a bachelor’s or master’s degree in architecture are eligible to be nominated.

Discover Card Tribute Award Scholarship
Applicant must be a high school junior, have a cumulative grade point average for
the 9th and 10th only, of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.

Elks National Foundation
Seniors who are US citizens, perform community service, displays leadership qualities and participate in extracurricular activities. Applications should be sent to the local chapter.

Gates Millennium Scholars
Citizens or legal permanent residents of the United States. Seniors who have attained a GPA of 3.3 or have earned a GED. Applicants must be low-income minority students, and demonstrate community involvement. Although there are no restrictions on majors, nominators are asked to consider academic performance in math and sciences.
Students also have to meet the federal Pell Grant eligibility criteria.

Seniors who live in communities with Simon Malls and plan to attend an accredited

Ron Brown Scholarship
The Ron Brown Scholar Program seeks to identify African-American high school seniors who will make significant contributions to society. Applicants must excel academically, exhibit exceptional leadership potential, participate in community service activities and demonstrate financial need. The applicant must be a U.S. citizen or hold a permanent resident visa card.

Tom Joyner Foundation (Full Ride Scholarship)
Current high school seniors who are U.S. citizens, with a GPA of 3.5 or higher. Applicants must have applied and be accepted into a Historically Black College or University (HBCU). Applicants must have demonstrated leadership abilities through participation in community service, extracurricular, or other activities.

Seniors with a GPA of 3.0 or better and actively involved in a service organization or project that

Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Eta Zeta (Lambda Chapter)
African/Latino American males, accepted to and enrolled in accredited four year colleges, demonstrate leadership and commitment to their community. Seniors with a GPA of 2.5

APS (American Physical Society) Minority Scholarship Program
Any African-American, Hispanic American, or Native American U.S. citizen or permanent resident who is majoring or planning to major in physics, and who is a high school senior, college freshman, or sophomore is eligible to apply for the scholarship. Contact:

Seniors with a GPA of 2.5 or more, work part time, involved in community services.
Apply online October through February (specific dates will be given). Applicants should demonstrate financial need and plan to enroll in an accredited two/or four-year college, university, or vocational/technical school by the fall of the application year.

National Co-op Scholarship

Seniors who are planning to attend a college/university or vocational/technical school. A resume of extracurricular activities must be submitted and a school transcript. Seniors with a GPA of 2.5

Ronald McDonald House Charities Scholarship
Currently enrolled high school seniors who are eligible to attend a two or four year college.
Applicants must be legal U.S. residents, be less than 21 years of age. Applicants may choose one of four scholarships that will meet the specified requirements.

Westchester Recreation and Parks Society are offering a scholarship for seniors who are planning to enter a college or university as a matriculated student. Applicants must be residents of Westchester County, New York and must register at the Institution of their choice in the Recreation and/ or Parks curriculum.

Samuel Fletcher Tapman Scholarship
High school seniors, who will be registered as an undergraduate in the Fall, and is a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) student chapter and is also a national member in good standing at the time of the award.

‘Ned Carter Scholarship’
Seniors must be related to or be a firefighter in an affiliated member organization

The Auxiliary of Hudson Valley Hospital Center
The applicant must be a graduating senior of a high school in the Hudson Valley Hospital Center area. The applicant must plan to pursue a career in healthcare and has a record of academic achievement and potential for finishing career goal. Hudson Valley Gateway Chamber 2012 Scholarship Program
The Hudson Valley Gateway Chamber awards one scholarships per school to students in attendance at Croton-Harmon, Hendrick Hudson, Lakeland, Peekskill, Putnam Valley and Walter Panas High Schools. The $1,000 scholarship awards are given annually to students who are high school seniors pursuing advanced level education.

This scholarship is open to high school seniors who have been accepted to college and plan to pursue a career in journalism. Applicants must demonstrate an ongoing interest in journalism through work in high school and/or other media, submit a one-page essay on why they want to pursue a career in journalism and have at least a 3.0 GPA in high school.

Earthwatch Expeditions Inc.
High school students interested in the fields of archaeology, anthropology, environmental studies, biology or marine science. Recipients are given an opportunity to work in the field for 2-3 weeks with a professional scientist on a research expedition.

For high school seniors, undergraduates or graduate students majoring in journalism. Must be pursuing a major in communications.

This scholarship is open to Hispanic students who are interested in pursuing a career in technology. High school seniors, high school graduates, and currently enrolled college students may apply. Candidates must be dependents of parents/guardians who died or were permanently disabled during the September 11th tragedies.

The Westchester Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc. is offering a scholarship to help a deserving African/Latino American male purchase books in his first year of college. The deserving senior should be accepted to and enrolled in an accredited four year college. Seniors with a GPA of 2.5

American Health and Beauty Aids Institute (AHBAI)
AHBAI offers two types of scholarships for students:
High School seniors planning to study cosmetology: To be eligible for the scholarship, students must have an 85 percent or higher average in school and must have completed a minimum of 300 hours. Extracurricular activities, attendance records and previous competitions/awards will also be taken into consideration. Applications must be postmarked by April 15. Scholarship applications for college-bound students:
To be eligible for a scholarship, candidates must be college-bound high school seniors enrolled at a four-year college for the 2009/2010 school year, majoring in chemistry, business or engineering. Chaminade Club of Yonkers – Music Award
The Chaminade Club of Yonkers, which has become a leader in fostering the appreciation of good music, is again offering $1,000 scholarship to High School Seniors who show promise in this field and plan to pursue a music degree in college. Seniors with a GPA of 2.5

Eligible students must be graduating African American high school seniors that have accumulated at least a 3.0 GPA. Students must demonstrate academic excellence and community involvement. The Peekskill Rotary Club - The Hispanic/Latino Scholarship
The purpose of this scholarship is to offer financial assistance for tuition and other educational expenses to part-time or full-time undergraduate students. Preference will be given to students of Hispanic heritage. Granted annually to a local high school student that exemplifies in his/her deeds and words, a contribution towards multicultural awareness and unity building in the Peekskill and greater Cortlandt community. KFS Colonel’s Scholars
KFC Colonel’s Scholars are looking for high school seniors with financial need and an entrepreneurial spirit to quality for the KFC Colonel’s Scholars Program. Awards are up to $20.000 for tuition, fees, textbooks, room and board.
To qualify, graduating high school seniors must:
Earn a minimum high school cumulative GPA of 2.75
Enroll in a public college or university within their state of legal residence
Plan to pursue a bachelor’s degree

$10,000 Scholarships For Minority and Female Students
Awards To Be Given Away September, October, and November 2009 is giving away a $10,000 scholarship every single month to a high school or college student who is 18 years of age or older. The scholarship award can be used to pay for tuition, books, housing, and more.
Applicants must have at least one parent that is an African American, Hispanic American, Asian American, or Native American. Female students of all ethnicities are also eligible.

HARVARD UNIVERSITY
Harvard University has announced that from now on undergraduate students from low-income families will pay no tuition. In making the announcement, Harvard’s president Lawrence H. Summers said, “When only 10 percent of the students in Elite higher education come from families in the lower half of the income distribution, we are not doing enough. We are not doing enough in bringing elite higher education to the lower half of the income distribution.”

CALL ME MISTER PROGRAM
(MISTER - acronym for Mentors Instructing Students Toward Effective Role Models)
The Call Me MISTER program is collaboration between Clemson University and other outstanding colleges and universities to increase the pool of available teachers from a broader more diverse background particularly for lower performing public elementary and middle schools. Student participants are largely selected from among under-served, socio-economically disadvantaged and educationally at-risk communities.
Procedures for admission into the program are as follows:
1. Seniors should apply and be accepted into one of the participating colleges or universities from which the degree and teaching certificate will be earned.
2. Complete the online application.
3. Submit (i) Final Transcript and (ii) Two letters of recommendation.

Educational Opportunities Portfolio Project, a program of the United Negro College Fund in partnership with YMCA Black Achievers and the Thurston Group offers seniors to participate in a 9 week Saturday program from 12:30-3:00 pm at Seattle University. You will build a portfolio for your college application, research colleges and universities and receive support in all aspects of applying for college. Loyola Mary mount is offering the Arrupe Scholarship, $12,500 annually, is based on academic records upon submitted an application. This will be awarded to approximately 10% of the incoming class. Historically black Knoxville College, in east Tennessee, has reduced its tuition from $5,000 to $1,400 per student including room, board, and books! All you need is $600 for the enrollment deposit and $800 can be paid in four monthly installments of $200 each. The program is funded by corporate sponsors and guarantees a college education where students graduate debt free. Enrollment requirements include a high school diploma and a 2.0/4.0 scale. If your student has below a 2.0, but you know they are college material, they may be considered provided they get three letters of recommendation. The Women's Technology Program at MIT is a 4-week summer residence program to introduce high school girls to electrical engineering and computer science. If you know a girl who is currently a high school junior who demonstrates math and science ability and an interest in finding out about EECS, please encourage her to visit our website at . Our classes are taught in a supportive environment by a staff of women MIT PhD candidates and undergraduates. The full-time academic program includes hands-on experiments and team-based projects in computer science, electrical engineering, and mathematics. No prior experience in computer programming, physics, or electrical engineering is expected, but applicants typically have strong academic records, especially in math and science.
HARVARD'S TUITION ANNOUNCEMENT - Harvard is offering free tuition for students that have a family income below $40,000. If you are a mentor or have nieces and nephews who might be interested, please give them this information. If you know any one/family earning less than $40K with a brilliant child near ready for college, please pass this along. Harvard's Tuition announcement highlights failure of prestigious universities to enroll low-income students. Harvard University announced over the weekend that from now on undergraduate students from low-income families will pay no tuition. In making the announcement, Harvard's president Lawrence H. Summers said, "When only 10 percent of the students in Elite higher education come from families in lower half of the income distribution, we are not doing enough. We are not doing enough in bringing elite higher education to the lower half of the income distribution." If you know of a family earning less than $40,000 a year with an honor student graduating from high school soon, Harvard University wants to pay the tuition. The prestigious university recently announced that from now on undergraduate students from low-income families can go to Harvard for free...no tuition and no student loans!
