Early Retirement Incentive Will Not Be ... - New York City

[Pages:1]Early Retirement Incentive Will Not Be Available

On April 19, 2021, the Governor signed into law Chapter 59 of the Laws of 2021, which authorized the City of New York ("the City") and the Department of Education ("the DOE") to offer an Early Retirement Incentive ("ERI") to eligible employees. This ERI consisted of two separate parts, Subpart A and Subpart B, and the City and the DOE were given the option to offer either, both, or neither. The deadline for the DOE to decide to offer the ERI was May 31, 2021, and the deadline for the City to decide to offer the ERI was June 30, 2021. Neither the DOE nor the City have decided to offer the ERI to their employees. As a result, no ERI will be available to BERS members at this time. Should the New York State legislature authorize another ERI in a future legislative session, we will post an announcement on the BERS website.
