Fair Fares NYC (reduce MetroCard cost)

Fair Fares NYC is a program created by Mayor Bill De Blasio and City Council Speaker Corey Johnson. This program helps to reduce the cost of MetroCards for low income NYC residents living in the 5 Boroughs by 50 percent if they meet the income requirements.

You might be eligible for Fair Fares NYC if you are:

A resident of the five (5) boroughs of New York City and Between the ages of 18 and 64 and Not currently participating in any other reduced-fare MetroCard program and Either a CUNY student, veteran student, NYCHA resident, or currently employed New

Yorker receiving SNAP and/or Cash Assistance from the NYC Human Resources Administration, and also

Your pre-tax annual household income is at or below the following limits:

The 14th Annual CUNY BMI conference entitled "Restorative Justice Education: We Are ALL Justice Involved", will feature a morning keynote by world renown activist and advocate, Mr. Shaun King, an afternoon keynote by world famous hip-hop artist and activist, Mr. Talib Kweli. The conference morning panels will specifically discuss historical context of issues that face the re-entry community and higher education transitioning strategies for all ages. The afternoon panels will discuss how advocacy can be transformed into action for college and surrounding communities who experience justice involvement or are justice involved adjacent. The overall theme of the conference will focus on improving cultural sensitivity and engaging the lens of universal precautions to more deeply support all students - because when one person has justice involvement, we are ALL justice involved.

International Pathways: Cities Decarbonizing Buildings

Friday, September 27, 2019 Leading global cities have been widely hailed as driving climate policy and action, and in large cities with mature public transit systems and little heavy industry, buildings are responsible for the large majority of carbon emissions. Finding practical solutions to dramatic energy and carbon reduction from existing buildings is a major challenge, and this program will highlight policies in place in several of the largest cities in the world that have been recognized as leading the way in building climate policy action. The Tokyo Cap & Trade Program, NYC's Climate Mobilization Act, and the Yokohama Smart City Project have been recognized as world-leading policies and will be highlighted in this session.

The format is super simple: you bring a thing you want to learn or a project to build, and work alongside others doing the same. If you have a question, we will do our best to answer, or at least point you in the right direction. Bring your own laptop if you can, or you can use one at the library. More experienced folks are also welcome as mentors.
