THIS PER SESSION ASSIGNMENT IS SUBJECT TO FUNDING

POSITION:

EVS Supervisors, Teachers, Paraprofessionals and Secretaries

WORK LOCATION:

District 75 Office 400 First Avenue New York, NY 10010 And selected EVS School sites

ELIGIBILITY:

Appointed with valid New York City Department of Education license as a supervisor or teacher of the blind. Paraprofessional and secretary who have knowledge of Braille and/or can repair Braille writers.

SELECTION CRITERIA:

1.

A minimum of 3 years satisfactory service in EVS

2.

Ability to meet established deadlines.

3.

Satisfactory written and oral communication skills.

4.

Record of satisfactory attendance.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

Supervisors: 1. Supervise and plan the design of staff development and extracurricular activities to adapt the uniform curriculum and standards, and to integrate assistive technology, and the adapted core curriculum into programs for students who are blind or visually impaired. 2. Create and maintain EVS databases

Teachers, Paraprofessionals and Secretary:

1.

Provide, prepare and edit materials for training/professional development of EVS initiatives including

staff development, in braille, nemeth code, orientation and mobility, marine science and assistive

technology. Assistive technology includes the use of JAWS, Braille Lite, Pacmate and the Duxbury

Braille translation system.

2.

Provide technology education and training opportunities in the education of the blind for new teachers

and paraprofessionals to upgrade their current skills.

3.

Prepare and maintain materials to post on EVS website.

4.

Prepare and maintain EVS student database and other EVS data collection initiatives such as adapted

textbook database, NYS Legally Blind Census forms, Teachers Choice, EVS equipment database,

Carfare forms, etc.

5.

Repair and maintain low tech equipment such as Perkins Braille Writer

6.

Translate printed material to contracted Braille format.

7.

Provide paraprofessional and/or pedagogical services for blind and visually impaired students in

after/extended school programs and extra curricula activities.

8.

Provide Orientation and Mobility services to mandated students on route travel, which may include

buses and trains, that cannot be effectively taught during school hours.

9.

Provide ADA assistance to the Director of EVS in the use of DOE Procurement Procedures, EVS

Databases, FAMIS, CAP, ATS, Outlook, Galaxy and other systems. Read computer monitor,

memoranda and correspondence to the EVS Director.

10. Monitor and/ or assist students before or after school with bussing and afterschool programs.

HOURS:

Monday ? Friday 7:00 A.M. - Start of school session, End of school session. - 7:00 P.M.; and Saturdays/Sundays 9:00 A.M.- 4:00 P.M. Number of hours per position may vary dependent upon specific tasks assigned.

WORK SCHEDULE: September 2006 - August 2007

SALARY:

As Per Collective Bargaining Agreement

Service exceeding the number of hours specified in the DHR Memorandum dated March 5, 1999, concerning the change in the maximum number of hours for per session activities effective July 1, 1999 and/or service in more than one per session activity in a per session year, July 1, 2005 ? June 30, 2006, requires the prior approval of the Chief Executive for Human Resources. The appropriate Chief Executive, Chief Administrator, Executive Director, Superintendent of High Schools, Community Superintendent or Special Education Superintendent must make the request in writing (Form OP-175W) and receive written approval before the person can begin working in the activity. Requests should be sent from the appropriate district office to the Division of Human Resources ? Per Session Monitoring Unit, at 65 Court Street, Brooklyn, New York 11201, Room 405G.
