|Greetings from the 70th Precinct, JULY, 2011 |

|The 70th Precinct would like to congratulate Deputy Inspector Ralph Monteforte on his retirement. Deputy Inspector Monteforte has been the Commanding Officer of the 70th Precinct |

|for 3 years and during his tenure with the 70th Precinct he was instrumental in crime reduction and the improvement of the quality of life in the Flatbush, Midwood and Kensington |

|areas. This has lead the 70th Precinct to receive the Police Commissioner’s Unit Citation Award for the reduction of violent crimes. The 70th Precinct Officers along with our |

|community wish him the best of life’s endeavors and a Happy & Healthy retirement. |

|As we transfer the baton, the 70th Precinct and the community would like to welcome their new Commanding Officer, Deputy Inspector Eric Rodriquez. |

|Deputy Inspector Eric Rodriquez is a seasoned veteran who came from the 68th Precinct. His goals are to enhance the living conditions of the community where he commands. He’s an |

|authentic community person who cares about people. |

|Community Board 14 announced the upcoming retirement of District Manager, Doris Ortiz. Mrs. Ortiz has worked diligently with the 70th precinct for many years and she will be |

|missed. Mrs. Shawn Campbell from Assemblymen’s Jim Brenan’s office has been nominated to replace Doris Ortiz and we Congratulate her and welcome her with all the support that she |

|may require, she will be great asset to this community. |

|Patrol Brooklyn South Showcase festival was a great success and we would like to give a special thank you to COPO (Council Of Peoples Organization), the 70th Precinct Explores, |

|Asghar Choudri (70th Pct Clergy Liaison), Ed Powell (70th Pct Council President) and the rest of community who volunteered and gave their support to this event. |

|The 70th Precinct wishes to extend our condolence to the family of Lieby Kletzky. Deputy Inspector Rodriquez and many others from the command were involved in the search of Lieby |

|from the beginning, and we mourn for his loss with the community. |

|The 70th Precinct wishes our Muslim Community a Happy Ramadan. Ramadan will begin on the eve of Sunday, July 31st through Tuesday, August 30th. |

|SAFETY TIPS: |

|In an effort to reduce crime at our locale fitness gyms, we are asking the community to |

|leave valuables like credit cards and jewelry at home. Please do not put these items in your |

|locker due to the recent locker break-ins. |

| |

|PEDESTRIAN SAFTEY: |

|In an effort to ensure both pedestrian and motorist safety, the 70th Precinct would like to |

|remind motorist to remain alert and refrain from talking and texting on their cell phone |

|while driving. |

| |

|BICYCLE INITIATIVE - |

|Bicycle accidents and bicyclist injuries have seen a dramatic increase in the past |

|year. Please be advised that in an effort to reduce these types of accidents, the 70 Precinct will be holding bicyclists more accountable for their actions, as they already do |

|motorists, by issuing traffic violations. |

|***FYI*** Recent business from Transit District 34 reports that there has been incidences in which electronic devices were being stolen from passengers on board the subway system. |

|Be aware, as train doors are closing, property is being removed. |

|70th PRECINCT COMMUNITY COUNCIL |

|The Community Council holds their meetings every last Wednesday of the month. The next Community Council Meeting is Wednesday, September 21, 2011 at 7:30 pm at 175 Lawrence Avenue. |

|Date was changed for September due to the holiday. |

| |

|UPCOMING EVENTS |

|On Tuesday August 2, 2011 from 6:30-9:00 pm, the 70th Precinct will be hosting the 28th Anniversary of National Night Out at the Parade Grounds located at Caton Avenue & Argyle |

|Road. Please come out and join in the festivities – Free BBQ, Raffle Off of a bicycle, Blood Pressure Screening + Giveaways. |
