Need for the program:
A. What need will be met by the proposed program? This program will meet the need to have a program of study for alternative certification candidates teaching students with disabilities in grades 7-12.
B. Describe the potential student population for the proposed program. The potential student population is alternative certification candidates who would be eligible to be the teacher of record for students with disabilities in grades 7-12.
C. Provide evidence that there will be sufficient enrollment: The NYC department in the School of Education currently has about 100 students teaching in middle school using a program based in our childhood program with extensions in middle childhood and special education. The NYC Department of Education has indicated that Pace SOE will receive 110 incoming NYC Teaching Fellows in June 2012. According to our past enrollment, about 60% of these students will be teaching in middle and high schools. All of them will need this program in order to be in compliance with the new certification regulations for adolescent special education.
Provide a scope and sequence for the proposed program. Note when new courses are added, substituted for current courses, or when current courses are changed or deleted See attached.
Provide evidence that expertise to offer this program exists within the University.
Adolescent program faculty include Kabba Colley and Lauren Birney(science), Michael Weinraub(World Languages), Brian Evans(mathematics), Peter McDermott(literacy), and Beth Kava(social studies). Special education faculty include Joan Myers, Kelley Lassman, Roberta Wiener and Leslie Soodak.

How will this course be delivered (online, hybrid, classroom, etc.)? Fall, spring and summer 1 courses will be delivered primarily as classroom courses with the option of hybrid classes if appropriate. Summer 2 courses will be delivered online.

Describe how you will document the outcomes of the program within the SPA requirements. Faculty will work with the Director of Assessment to assure that all SPA requirements are completed through course work and Capstone projects and recorded in current SOE assessment system.
Please attach a one page course outline for all proposed courses to this proposal. All proposed courses are current courses in the adolescent program and in the advanced certificate program in special education. Complete templates and syllabi are available on the SOE n-drive.
