SPECIFICATION

This page is for architects and other specifiers who wish to copy and paste details of our flooring products and services into their own specification. Ardern Hodges Temperate Engineered Flooring is normally described under K21 in the NBS Building system. We are in the RIBA Product Selector.

K21 Timber strip/board fine flooring/linings.

Substrate: Structurally sound, dry and level to manufacturer’s recommendations.

- Preparation: Maximum permissible gap under a 3.0m straight edge to be no more than 3mm.

- Allow for latex levelling screed to even out any local surface irregularities.

- Resilient layer: 6mm or 2mm underlay as recommended by flooring manufacturer.

- Vapour control layer: as recommended by flooring manufacturer.

o 500 gauge polythene.

o 3 coats of liquid damp proof membrane.

Strip/boards: Free from decay, through splits and insect attack (including ambrosia beetle damage) Planed all round.

Temperate Engineered Flooring

Wood species:

Composite boards comprising:-

- Finish veneer: European oak (Quercus robur) 4mm

American white oak (Quercus alba) 4mm

Canadian rock maple (Acer saccharum) 4mm

Elm, English or Scotch (Ulmus) 4mm

American black walnut (Juglans nigra) 4mm

American white ash (Fraxinus americana) 4mm.

- Interlayer: 12mm 9-layer birch throughout plywood bonded (WBP) to face and balancing veneers.

- Balancing veneers: same or similar species to face 4mm.

- Appearance class of finish veneer to BS EN 942: Class J2 except sound knots up to 20mm are permitted or to approved sample.

- Random length, mainly 1.8m to 3.3m.

- Finish face width: 200mm.

- Finish thickness: 19.5 to 20mm.

- Edges tongued and grooved, ends grooved to take ply tongues.

- Moisture content at time of fixing: 6 to 9% or as recommended by flooring manufacture.

- Method of joining: Glued tongue and grooves, ends glued with ply tongues, adhesive to manufacturer’s recommendations.

Finish: Sand completed floor to 120 grit with electric rotating planetary sanding machine, small defects to be filled with wood flour and resin, to give smooth flat surface free from score marks.

- Sealer: 3 coats of “Extra resistant Timbertect” polyurethane organic solvent as manufacturer’s recommendations.

- Sealer: 3 coats of Omega waterborne lacquer, with denibbing between coats to remove raised grain.

- Thresholds to site requirements and level changes.

- Stair treads and risers, mitred or with nosing to design.

- Near invisible floor outlet cut from full with of contiguous board.

- Specialist joinery items to match flooring.

- Mat wells let into floor.

- Junctions with stone, glass, tiles and carpet.

- Frames around trench heating.

- Manhole covers cut from contiguous boards.

- External decking.

- Acoustic treatment of sub-floor.

- Protection of completed work.

- Other finishes, colour treatment, fuming.

- Caramelising; finish veneer darkened to its full depth.

- UV filters reduce effects of sunlight using nanotechnology.
