We will study our planets and their characteristics, learn about the moon, and Earth and how they rotate and revolve to create day/night and seasons, waves. What is magnetic pull? The sun is a star and important for life on our planet! We will learn about astronauts and their equipment such as telescopes, oxygen packs, Rover, etc. Vocabulary words such as constellations, Milky Way, Black Hole, will be explored! Simple chemistry fun will be explored through interactive, hands-on activities. Our preschoolers will be introduced to the science of mixing things together to create slime, quicksand, dough, volcanoes, rainbows, etc. This session is inquiry-based where children have opportunities to ask questions, observe demonstrations, complete experiments, and create take-home projects! Dinosaur DaysAlways one of the most popular units of study with young children! Dinosaurs are unique so learning about the different periods of prehistoric times, characteristics of different dinos, ways they hunted/ate, are a great way to incorporate kindergarten readiness skills into everyday fun! Going Green We have a huge, raised garden bed filled with vegetables, herbs, and fruit! Kids learn about connections between insects/plants/humans in a garden community by studying how various items grow, how some insects are ‘friends or foes’ and what it takes to have a ‘green thumb’! Digging in the dirt helps children develop coordination, muscle control, perseverance, and teamwork! Working with big, juicy worms is the highlight of the week! Our children will learn what it means to ‘go green’ and take care of our planet in our daily lives. Ocean AdventuresChildren are fascinated with the world under the sea! Studying sharks, whales, dolphins, pirates/mermaids, seahorses, crabs, etc. are a great way to increase vocabulary, literacy and math skills, and imagination! We will even measure the actual length of a big blue whale! (100ft.) Water is everywhere in our lives. There’s something mesmorizing about it, especially for children. They’ll scoop, pour, and explore, over and over and over again. Children will explore the physical properties of water, the changing states of water, rain and water’s role in nature, the many uses for water, and the change that water can quickly bring about. Vocabulary words: density, boiling, freezing, solution/dissolve, absorption, evaporation, float/sink, Knights/Princesses/Castles/Dragons - Young children learn by imagining and doing. But this pretend play is not as simple as it may seem. The process of pretending builds skills in many essential developmental areas. Your child also builds self-esteem when he discovers he can be anything just by pretending! From Psychology Today: An important? benefit of early pretend play may be its enhancement of the child’s capacity for cognitive flexibility and, ultimately, creativity. Early imaginative play was associated with increased creative performance years later. Research with clearly creative individuals such as Nobel Prize winners and MacArthur Foundation “genius” grant?awardees, indicated that early childhood?games about make-believe worlds were more frequent in such individuals. Learning Benefits: Problem solving (catapult, pulley, ramps) Critical thinking (building medieval towers, chapels, great halls, portcullis, other features)Self-expression (creative art activities using a variety of materials daily) Imagination (build dragons, wands, shields, hats, ice castles, magic mirrors)Social and Emotional (dress up, role play, puppet theater, group games)Language Skills (dragon poems, new vocabulary, songs, phonemic awareness fingerplays)Thinking Skills (crown and jewel counting, glass slipper estimation station) ................
