Unanswered prayer?

One day a little boy asked his pastor-mom why she always bowed her head for a moment before starting to preach. The mother, delighted that her son was so aware of what went on during worship, answered, “I pray for God to help me deliver a good sermon to the people.”

Alas, her delight was short-lived and fizzled at the child’s response: “So why doesn’t God ever answer?”

Betty or Kathy will let the organizers of this project know.

Spanish Bible Drive

LCoP has the opportunity to share the Word with the children at Ninos de Promesa Orphanage in Tijuana. For a donation of $12 you can put the Bible into the hands of one of His little ones in the language they understand. Our goal is to give each child their very own Bible in Spanish! There are about 80 children in the orphanage. Please pray about supporting this special event!! Checks should be made out to LCoP in the memo include a note “for Spanish Bible Drive”. There is a sign-up sheet and basket in the Narthex.

Ramming Update

Cindy and I have enjoyed our time here in Stephenville.  The members of Faith Lutheran were very supportive during our struggle to find a place to live and in helping us get to the know the town.  And we very much appreciate the prayers offered by all of our friends there in Bakersfield.  Our house in Four Seasons and the condo are now under contract; we thank God for the blessings of a quick sale on both of those.   We will always have fond memories of our years with you at LCoP and thank you for the support you all gave us then and now.  Let's stay in touch; our address is 790 S. Lillian St, Stephenville, TX 76401.  And if you're ever in the Central Texas area, come see us.

Kitchen/Building

Expansion Committee

There is a lot of interest in remodeling the kitchen and building expansion. We have over $40,000 in dedicated funds. We now need to form a committee to develop the detailed plans based on our current and future needs and most importantly what can be done legally.

Purpose and goals:

1. Investigate what we can and cannot do to remodel and or expand our facilities. This will involve working with engineers, building contractors, and the building department.

2. Once it is determined the options open to us, develop comprehensive plans and estimates.

3. Present the plans and options to the Board of Directors and to the voters.

4. Complete the above goals within six months.

Time commitment:

This committee may meet as often as weekly, along with members spending time working on specific task related to the committees goal.

If you are interested or have any questions, please contact Roy Eynaud at 324-0275 or 340-4521.

Pregnancy Center Training

Are you concerned about women in our community who are struggling with the difficult decisions surrounding an unintended pregnancy? Would you like to do something to help stem the tide of abortion, out-of-wedlock births, disease, and poverty in our nation? Could you commit a few hours each week to minister to women facing these challenges? Please consider becoming a Bakersfield Pregnancy Center volunteer.

The center utilizes volunteer receptionists, counselors and nurses to serve clients needing pregnancy testing, maternity or newborn clothing, and decision making counsel. Training begins Tuesday, October 28th. Registration deadline is

October 14th. Cost for the training is $40. For more information, please contact the Bakersfield Pregnancy Center at 326-1915 or .

CHILDREN’S CENTER

Ms. Charla Herider

Director

Dear Wonder Window and

LCoP family,

Welcome to fall!

Fall is my favorite season and I am happy that it has arrived. The cooler weather, the colors, the laughter of children as they plan what they will “be” on Halloween, it all makes me smile. This year I am looking forward to Trunk or Treat on October 31st. My husband and I participated last year and had such a great time. I want everyone to come and have fun with us this year. In addition, Wonder Window will host a Western Roundup from 9:00-10:15 that same morning. Please watch for sign-up sheets in your child’s classroom.

Something else to look forward to is Oktoberfest! The food is all homemade and so delicious. My husband, Bill, commented on the potato salad last year saying it tasted just like his Oma’s. He is really looking forward to having that again. This year, Oktoberfest will be held on Saturday, October 11th. The meal tickets for adults are only $10 and each of your children will receive a free kid’s meal coupon. There will be a bounce house, face painting and raffles. There is no cost to just come. The meals include German sausage, homemade kraut, homemade German potato salad, & dessert along with tea & lemonade. Kids meals are a hot dog, chips, & cookie. In addition there will be soft pretzels, specialty cheeses and beer available for purchase. This is all held on the church patio. Come and join the fun!

This month, our lessons will focus on Fire Prevention and Safety, Autumn Changes, Bugs and Harvest. Our numbers for October are 4-6 and our shape is a square. The youngest children will work with the letters D, E and F. The Pre-K phonics can be found on Ms. Stephanie’s note. Our Chapel curriculum will follow Joshua and the Battle of Jericho, Hannah, Samuel and David and Goliath. Remember to work with your child on the memory verses.

I want to thank the families who were able to come to Rally Day in support of the Wonder Window staff dedication. It was so nice to see your smiling faces at Lutheran Church of Prayer. If you don’t have a church family, we’d love to have you join ours. Services begin at 9:00 a.m.

Our fundraiser, Save Around the City, was a success. We made $1500!! This will go towards refurbishing the sandbox. We had 3 parents that went all out and sold more than 15 books each. The top 3 sellers were: The Corsi family, the Harper family and the Richardson family. Together they sold 63 of the 150 books we sold! Way to go!! You will see a tuition credit on this month’s tuition. Thank you all for your efforts. Working together we can make BIG changes.

Blessings,

Charla Herider

Ms. Nati’s Class

Hello, everyone! It feels great to be back and see smiles every day. I missed “my kids.” This month the 2’s will be introduced to the letters D, E and F, the numbers 4, 5 and 6 and the shape of a square. We will many projects using the colors black and orange. We will also continue to talk about God’s love for us. We will be celebrating the harvest with a Western Roundup on October 31st at 9:00 a.m. This is a fun opportunity to volunteer by helping with a booth or just walking with the children from booth to booth. You can also donate goodies. A sign up list will be up soon. We hope to see you here on that day!

Ms. Rachel’s Class

Hello! September has come and gone and we’ve reached October. We look forward to the cooler weather it brings. The children continue to be eager and ready to learn. It is a joy to come in and see their smiling faces ready to start the day. We’ve been busy, learning together, working hard and having fun. Fall is upon us and we are looking forward to the changes it brings. We will be watching how colors and the weather begin to change. We pray for all of those who are sick and for our families. God bless and keep safe.

Ms. Stephanie’s Class

Fall is here and the weather is starting to get cooler. Leaves will be turning colors and falling off of the trees soon. It is such a beautiful sight when you take a couple of minutes to really look at what God has made. There will be a Western Roundup at the preschool. Your students can dress in their favorite costumes and play all of the fun games, bounce in the bounce house and participate in the cookie walk. There will be more to do as well. Please be on the lookout for a sign-up sheet to help with toys, candy, volunteering, etc. Lutheran Church of Prayer will also be hosting a Trunk or Treat the evening of October 31st beginning at 6:30 p.m. Trunk or Treat offers your child a fun and safe Halloween. We would love to see you here. During the month of October we will be studying the shape of a square, the colors black and orange and the numbers 4-7. Our phonic sounds will be r, m, d, g, o, u, l and f. Please continue to review everything we do in class at home. Keep up the great work on the memory verses. A BIG, Happy birthday to Charles and Phillip on the 11th and to Sabrina on the16th. God bless.

Ms. Tamesha’s Class

Hello, parents. It’s been great getting to know you and your students. I have already had the pleasure of watching your students grow in many areas over the past 30 days. And I look forward to being a part of their continued growth thoughout the year. In the month of October we will be learning, having crafts, art and projects surrounding Fire Prevention and Safety, Bugs, Harvest. We will have the safety bear from State Farm come out and talk with us about being safe. I will also be making an effort to have the fire department come out to talk about fire prevention. We will have a lot of fun talking about all of the different types of bugs. The last week of the month, we will be having a Western Roundup. I will be sending out a reminder in a couple of weeks. This will be the week we will be discussing food, nutrition and good health. I look forward to having an awesome time with your student this month. Please do not forget about the Oktoberfest or Trunk or Treat. God bless you.

Pastor’s Page

By Rev. Mark Airey

Greetings in the name of Christ:

It’s Fall! In Bakersfield this is a time to celebrate! The “cool down” has begun and we might even see some rain… It is also a time to celebrate having accomplished something truly special. We have read through the entire Old Testament and studied it together as a congregation! I am very excited about the way in which the Holy Spirit has been moving within Lutheran Church of Prayer as we have been reading the Bible together. We have received a gift as a people and we are learning about God in a whole new light. This is good people!

Now, we are embarking on a new journey through the New Testament. The first verse of Matthew tells it all. “The book of the genealogy of Jesus Christ…” (Matt. 1:1) This is the announcement of the Messiah! We have been anticipating this coming for the whole year with all the prophets and the people of Israel and now He has arrived! And now Matthew will carefully document Jesus’ claim to be the Messiah and the evidence of His life and ministry: He possesses the credentials of the Messiah and ministers in the predicted manner of this Messiah who was to come. In this book He preaches messages only the Messiah could deliver, and, though crucified by the Roman authorities, God vindicates Him by raising Him from the dead! What are the chances he would fulfill all the prophecies we have been reading? Our first devotion tells us 300 to 1!

So, let us begin our journey in this month of October and with excitement let us enter into the New Testament and our Lord, Jesus Christ, as He ushers in to this world the Kingdom of God. While we are excitedly doing this, why don’t we invite a friend to join us? This is a great beginning time to invite an acquaintance to visit LCOP and see what we’re up to. Oktoberfest is coming and then Trunk and Treat. What a fun and exciting month!

In Christ’s Love,

Pastor Mark

Wonder Window School Board

Tim Hartnett ~ Chairman

Wonder Window has experienced some fantastic blessings this past month. First, I would like to thank those of you who purchased the Save Around coupon books. We met our goal, and these funds will be used to supplement some great enrichment opportunities for the children. Secondly, we had a terrific turnout for our Wonder Window open house. The parents were enthusiastic about our program and the wonderful job our staff does with their children. We had a significant number of parents sign up for the Wonder Window Parent Boosters’ Club. We are eager to get them involved and their input can definitely help us to enhance our program. Lastly, there are many opportunities for you to become a developmental asset in the lives of our students. We still need readers, hobby enthusiast and pretty much anything you can do to spend some time with our students. The more positive role models around our children the better. Please continue to pray for Wonder Window, the children, their parents and the staff.

Thank You,

Tim Hartnett

Don Votaw ~ Communications

We had a productive work day last month.  We finished painting the outside doors to the education building, trimmed a huge bush by one of the doors, trimmed some stuff by pastor’s office, moved some kitchen stuff to the storage area, did some cleaning in the education building and worked on some of the exit signs.  I’m tired just typing this.  Thank you everyone for coming out.  Just a reminder, it’s not all about the work.  It’s the fellowship we receive when we work together.  It’s kind of fun to tease each other.  If you think you aren’t capable of doing the job, know this: we all make mistakes (me) and it really doesn’t take much time to do a redo. So come on out, the more the merrier.

Our next work day will be Saturday, October 20th at 8 a.m.   Our next board meeting will be Monday, October 25th at 7 p.m.

Remember to pray for our pastors and those who are being persecuted overseas.  Pray for our government that needs our spiritual help more than ever.
