Principal's Message

Dear Ranch View Community,

We are having such an amazing 3rd quarter! So many points of pride to share such as a successful wish week for our buddy Quade, our 7 Tundra garden has produced the first harvest of romaine lettuce, we had a couple very successful 6th grade parent orientation nights, our Unified Basketball team is doing amazing, we have and continue to accept requests for round 2 of open enrollment, our drama department is preparing for the production of "James and the Giant Peach" coming up in March, and our Red and White semi-formal dance coming up on March 2nd! All of these wonderful things couldn't happen without the great support and partnership with our wonderful parent community!

Thank you all for your support! Finally, remember to ask your students how their day was, stay on top of their online lives, and push/support them to finish 3rd quarter strong!

Geography Bee

On Wednesday, January 24, 8 finalists from 7th and 8th grade teams competed in the school Geography Bee. The Geography Bee is sponsored by National Geographic and competitions are held throughout middle school all over the country! Students compete to test their geographical knowledge about U.S. Geography, World Geography, World History, and World Cultures! It is impressive to see how well these students did.

Our school winner is Charlie Wagner of 8 Arctic.

Our runners up were River Garfias of 8 Tundra and Kira Chaney of 7 Grey.

We are so proud of these students for competing and showing off their knowledge -- what a great example of true IB cultural and international awareness!! Great job to everyone!

All participants were: Kira Chaney, Imron Majid, Thomas Bruetting, Josephina Lynn, River Garfias, Charlie Wagner, Connor Collins, Nick Benak

DCSD Middle School Honor Band

The DCSD MS Honor Band and Orchestra that performed January 20th at Castle View High School. These kids had a great time being around fellow students from all over the district and performed some amazing music for a PACKED house.

Dimensions in Math Field Trip to Dinosaur Ridge

We went to Dinosaur Ridge to look at dinosaur tracks and measure the strides of different dinosaurs. We used this info to find the speeds of the different dinosaurs. Our main purpose was to apply math to a real world situation.

New to Ranch View

Hi! I'm Steve Harvey, teaching Math 8, Algebra and Geometry in the 8 Tundra Wolves pod for the next few months while Aly Hodges is on maternity leave. I've taught in several Denver area school districts over the past 15 years, but took a few years off to get my law degree and do some work in public policy research and analysis. Previously, I taught college Sociology classes (and did microeconomic modeling of social institutional systems), wrote a fantasy fiction novel, was in the Army Infantry, and spent about 8 years of my adult life living, working and traveling abroad on three different continents. I love teaching both because it gives me a chance to leverage kids' natural sense of wonder and mobilize it as a robustly positive force in their lives, and because it's just so much fun. I live in South Jeffco with my wife Dolores, my 14 year old daughter Scheherazade, and our dog Buttercup.

My name is Pamela Williams. I am currently the long-term substitute for Maths in Grey Wolf pod. I am married with three kids and three dogs. My kids are in 7th, 9th, and 11th grades. We moved to Colorado this summer from Texas. I hold a degree in Physics with a minor in mathematics. I have taught physics at the high school and college levels and maths at the middle school and high school levels. My husband's job causes us to move around a bit, so the year before last I was teaching middle school math overseas at an IB American curriculum school in the Middle East. My hobbies include reading and traveling. I'm currently learning to ski (and am not very good at it so far!) I love teaching middle schoolers because they are so inquisitive and energetic! I hope to get to know each of the kids in my classes as the month progresses. I am looking forward to learning as much from them and they hopefully will learn from me. Please feel free to drop by the classroom any time and say hello. I'm very happy to be part of the Wolf Pack here at Ranch View Middle School.

Robotics Club

Dear Parents,

I wanted to let you know about an opportunity for our students that will be starting up soon. We have a non school-sponsored Robotics Club that is looking for participants. Normally most of our clubs are initiated by students or teachers here at Ranch View, however a group came to us asking if they could start this club after school for Ranch View students. They are currently operating similar after-school robotics clubs at other schools in our District.

Attached you will find a flier with information about the club. Also, here is the link to their website for more information.
