The 2019 Report Card, issued by the Ohio Department of Education, shows the Cincinnati Public Schools making strategic progress in critical areas that determine student success.
The Ohio Report Card provides a snapshot of information measuring district and school performance in six areas - K-3 Literacy, Progress, Achievement, Gap Closing, Graduation Rate and Prepared for Success - by assigning letter grades in each category, as well as an overall grade.
Over the past year, the district has focused on improving our performance in "Gap Closing. The "Gap Closing category shows how students in certain subgroups perform in math, English language arts, and graduation rate; the score also measures how well schools are teaching English learners to become proficient in English. The district's investments have paid off and this year the district's "Gap Closing" score improved three letter grades, earning a B this year.
The four-year graduation rate is on the rise, increasing from 72.9 percent for the Class of 2015 to 77.9 percent for the Class of 2018.
2019 School Report Card Component Improvements 14 schools improved their overall grade; 32 schools increased their overall points; 18 schools increased their GAP Closing grade; 11 schools increased their K-3 Literacy grade; 18 schools increased their Progress grade;
3 schools improved their Achievement grade; 3 schools improved their Graduation grade; 1 school improved their Prepared for Success grade.
Walnut Hills High School earned an overall grade of A. Evanston Academy, a neighborhood Vision 2020 school, earned an A overall.
Ninety-eight percent of third-graders met the Third Grade Reading Guarantee for promotion to fourth grade. In K-3 Literacy, Taft Elementary earned an A for the second consecutive year.
Three schools earned an A in the Graduation Rate component: Clark Montessori High School School for Creative and Performing Arts Walnut Hills High School
Shroder Paideia High School and Gamble Montessori High School recorded a B for the Graduation Rate.
The district's three-year strategic plan outlines strategic measures that will create increased student achievement in the graduation rate, improving the literacy and math scores in third grade, sixth grade and ninth grade, increasing the number of students scoring well on the ACT and Advanced Placement tests, and ensuring that 100% of students declare a post-graduation pathway: enrolled in higher education, enlisted in the military, and employed in their chosen career.
